Ooooh so many pretty choices! I wrote down my favorites and went to the mall to try sizes from various lines. I have recently lost 20 lbs and wasn’t sure what size to order. They all had so much variation I decided I had to try it on. I brought home a couple of contenders. My DH and besties voted for this one

Thank you all so much. We have a delicious reception dinner all mapped out, flowers, officiant, license, rings, photographer, guests (!), town car to ferry the couple to and fro, munchies so my SIL isn’t feeding the growing crowd at her house, a soloist, a meet-and-greet with the grooms family the night before.
Hope we can still find: keyboard player for ceremony instead of iPhone and speakers. Hope there’s room to dance at the thing the night before, because there isn’t at the reception site.
Dragonmom, I saw that you got the RL dress. Lovely choice! Have a wonderful time. If things would not go as planned, take it easy. In the end, no one would remember the little hiccups. All will be remembered is fun times!

No, still a week to finish the details. She had already hired a planner, which has made a huge difference.
I am in AWE of you all! I had six months lead time, and still felt like I was going to lose my marbles before it happened. And I am sure your D’s wedding will be just grand!
My brother and his then fiance were having trouble setting a date. Finally, my brother said something to the effect of, “either we get married next week or it’s off.” So my now-SIL and her BFF went dress shopping, her father arranged a dinner at a friend’s restaurant, SIL called her old pastor and arranged for a chapel wedding, I was asked to make a cake (my hobby-see my photo), my mom made chocolate candy favors, and I think they bought flowers from a farm stand. It all went off without a hitch and they’ve been together 31 years.
The best part is that their kids arranged with the original maid of honor and best man and the church to recreate the wedding for their 25th. They didn’t know it was happening until they arrived at the chapel. They got as many of the original guests and new friends and it was pretty great from what I heard. I wasn’t able to make it, but I’d have loved to be there.

We were way ahead of the curve with the no religion bit although we got a hospital chaplain/minister to do a great nonreligious wedding (at a then local hotel, not one of the hospitals we worked at!). Chose a date 5 months away and kept it simple. Went to niece’s backyard wedding last year. She wore a tea length dress and H shot camera video of the bride and a girlfriend doing at least 30 pushups in their front yard!
The important idea is the wedding is just the start of the whole marriage. Much better to do a simple, quicker wedding and save tons of money for their life together.

Well, the wedding went off amazingly well. Their friend got licensed by the state and did a fantastic job with the ceremony: articulate, funny, spiritual, insisted on the “as long as we both inhabit this earth” vow… It took a tribe but everything worked. I owe all our sibs a huge debt of gratitude for their extra help. You can do a fantastic wedding in a short time if you have a great planner, flexible ideas and a dress already in the closet.

This is wonderful to hear. So all together, how much planning time was there? And how many people ended up attending? I’d love to hear some of the particulars of how you/they made everything come together so fast - the venue, the food, etc. I understand it was probably quite simple - which I personally think is GREAT!
