Weight loss drug thread for usage advice (not debating)

Just finished week 5 and I’ve lost 7.8 lbs. I don’t look like I’ve lost much, but somehow I feel really strong when I work out. I even got the urge to run while I was walking today. I haven’t run in over 30 years and I’ve always hated it, so I was never expecting to suddenly want to give it a try. It was only a minute at a time and then 3 minutes of walking, but it actually seemed easy. I may try to build it into more of a routine. Or, I may not. My biggest goal on this is not to become obsessive about anything. After decades of obsessing over calories, weight, what I was or wasn’t eating, and exercise schedules, I’m enjoying being “normal” for once.

Just finished week 5 and I’ve lost 7.8 lbs. After years of obsessing over what I was or wasn’t eating, how much, unrealistic exercise schedules, and how much I weighed, it’s nice to finally feel normal. My whole goal is to not obsess about anything. I’m not weighing, measuring or restricting foods. Just eating smaller portions, aiming for about 30 grams of protein per meal, and enjoying the movement I’m doing.

I’ve been at a plateau for a couple of months. A little down then a little up after a weekend. Need to shake up the routine and figure out being with friends and family. Down 29 lbs.

Every time someone says “you look great!” I say “it’s zepbound!” I think it’s a miracle drug and happy to spread the news (I do this too with women and menopause drugs). It’s my good deed for the day.

What I’ve heard from some people is that “it quiets the food noise.” I didn’t have that issue but just stopped me from snacking and overeating.

Question for y’all: is anyone experiencing night sweats? And if so does anyone attribute it to the drugs?

Thx!

My night sweats have gone away since I’ve been on it. I’ve been able to move the thermostat up a few degrees at night.

Yes night sweats, also on Zepbound, but I’m 50 so maybe this is perimenipause?

I’m also in the plateau phase. I lost a lot over the last year - about 45 pounds - but I need to lose that again and then some.

Has anyone rewarded themselves for hitting their goal? I’m seriously thinking about a new Pilates reformer (with a half tower). I have an old cheap one that is almost like a “play” version of the real thing. They are $$$, but I am cheap and rarely buy myself anything. My goal is 40lbs in a year/ keep working out 3x/wk on my Tempo and 1x a week on my crap reformer and I’ll have earned a new one.

As far as night sweats, I’ve been extremely lucky because I’ve never had them. I escaped most menopause effects, except of course the weight gain.

Yeah - I’m on menopause drugs and didn’t have them until more recently. Been on zepbound for over a year, so I’m not sure it’s that. My husband thinks it’s to do with hypoglycemia but I’m not so sure.

25.1 pounds down. 25.1 pounds to go. It sure is nice not carrying all that weight around.

Hi all – a little background, I’m 52. At age 40 I was at a decent weight and felt pretty good, but over the last 12 years I managed to pack on about 50 pounds. Perimenopause isn’t helping these last couple years, either.

Doc was concerned about my blood sugar and cholesterol this summer (first time my blood work has been problematic), and she prescribed Zepbound. I get it through Lilly Direct, so it’s expensive but far cheaper than the pre-filled pens at the pharmacy. (I have to use the vial and a syringe, but it’s not a big deal.)

I took my fourth 2.5 dose last Wednesday, and I’m supposed to stay at this dosage for another month before discussing with the doctor. I’ve lost 10 pounds, which seems miraculous to me – I haven’t been able to drop any weight in the last decade. No side effects so far except constipation (and that seems to be helped with magnesium and some extra vitamin C), and I feel gross if I overeat, although that’s obvs part of the point, lol.

I’ve never been an exerciser, so I really need to get some kind of routine going – I know I’ll feel much better. At most I’ve walked on the treadmill while listening to an audio book. I also own a vibration platform (purchased for my son who has motor coordination disorder and low tone, but I can use it, too).

Everyone is saying weight training to help prevent muscle loss. I’m never going to go to the gym – any suggestions for the easiest possible weight training I could do at home? Any easy and efficient YouTube videos to follow? Is a weighted vest really a thing I should do – does that count as weight training? (Not really, right?)

I’ve just started reading here out of curiosity. Has anyone stayed at the 2.5 Zepbound dosage long term?

I really do recommend a gym. Not the type that’s dominated by 20-something guys who intimidate the heck out of you. I go to a gym MEANT for 50+ people, mostly women. We have small groups for training, and the trainers do a great job of making sure we stay safe but challenge ourselves. There is also a nutritionist we can consult. They monitor our fat and muscle percentages. It doesn’t do any good to lose a lot of weight if you’re sacrificing muscle. They will teach you what you need to do to gain muscle and lose fat.

It’s not cheap, but my physical therapist convinced me the cost is worth it.

Sigh, I was afraid someone was going to say that. Ugh, I can’t think of anything I want to do less, but I will look into it. How often do you go?

Three times a week. Some people do two times a week.

I got the book “Strong Women Stay Young” by Miriam Nelson many years ago and follow that program. I’ve added in moves from YouTube at times. I’ve considered joining a gym but haven’t yet

I’m a home exerciser because it’s the only way I’ll stay consistent. YouTube has some great videos. Search for weight training for women (over 50, if you want) and lots will come up. I like to preview them by just skipping through the whole thing to see if it seems like something I can do and then I check out the instructors page and playlists.

I too go to a trainer at a gym that is only for personal trainers. I go 2x a week and walk an additional 3 times a week (30 minutes up/down hills in my neighborhood). I also walk to the gym as it’s only a few blocks from my house. It is expensive but I think worth it as we age (probably the most worthwhile of anything you can do). I’ve watched my parents age without any exercise and they can barely move. That’s not gonna be me. My mom in law is also my parents age (82) and has exercised for the past 20 years and she can still walk the hills of SF. Just my 2 cents.

Edited to add: I started on .25 and was on it for 3 months. Then I moved up to .50 and have been on that dose for over a year. My weight has been steady for at least 6 months. I don’t plan on upping it unless I start to gain it back. I’ve lost 45 pounds (on my small frame, 5 feet). I’m at the weight I was in high school (and at my wedding). I feel great.

That’s awesome, great job! I know what you mean, going up the stairs is so much easier now. And my clothes are loose. I’m glad I didn’t throw out my old outfits that are smaller.
