Weight loss drug thread for usage advice (not debating)

For a replacement meal I’ll often do a protein shake. I don’t like to overdo them, but they’ll fill me up and I’ll get my protein.

I’ve been eating more fruit for snacks lately. Also like string cheese, handful of cashews, yogurt.

Edit to send hugs for furlough. Ridiculous situation and I feel for all of you.

Is it harder to give yourself a real shot vs a pen?

Has anyone switched from zepbound to wegovy? I think my new insurance next year will make me, unless they won’t cover either. I’ve been on 2.5 mg zepbound from Feb-May and Aug-now and lost over 30 lbs.

I haven’t used a pen, but it is really easy to do the shot with a syringe. The needle on the syringe is really thin – I barely feel it at all.

And there are step-by-step instructions on the Lilly site on how to draw the liquid from the vial into the syringe. It’s no big deal at all.

I slice up one of the Unexpected Cheddar chicken sausages from Trader Joe’s and microwave for one minute. Then I add a big scoop of cottage cheese on the side with some salt & pepper – I only like the house brand cottage cheese from Trader Joe’s or ALDI because it’s relatively dry. And I add some sliced tomatoes and cucumbers to the plate.

This sounds really boring, but it’s relatively healthy and quite a lot of protein – and I find it satisfying, plus no cooking.

Otherwise, for snacks, I also do bananas or apples, handful of cashews, string cheese. I’ve tried high-protein yogurt but don’t love it. I’ll do cottage cheese and mandarin oranges, though. Getting enough protein is a daily battle.

In a pinch, I like the frozen Sandwich Bros. spicy chicken sandwiches, lol.

Oh, and I love chickpeas – I will drain and rinse a can and then saute with olive oil and garlic and various spices. I add a dollop of sour cream.

I have grand plans to meal prep – I bought all these fancy fridge containers and envision cooking a bunch of chicken and veggies and portioning out for the week. Yeah, that hasn’t happened yet.

Thank you! These are good suggestions. I forgot that I really like cottage cheese, so I’ll have to pick some of that up.

I do really well with meal prepping this summer and the first month that my youngest was gone. Largely, I think, because when I go into to office I like to have something ready that I can just take all week. But I have done none of that for the last three weeks.

Has anyone found they have an aversion to certain foods? When I started, I was eating yogurt bowls on repeat but now find that if I try to eat yogurt, I gag. I also am having trouble with chicken for some reason, and I used to eat salad every night, but it longer appeals to me. I can’t tolerate drinking anything other than water and unsweet tea. I used to drink the flavored sparkling waters but can’t tolerate any of the flavors anymore.

I am struggling with getting protein. I do cheese sticks and protein shakes and some low sugar protein cereal with no sugar, 4-ingredient almond milk.

It’s hard to think of things to eat (and things to buy at the grocery store) when I’m not hungry and not thinking about food).

I have a ninja bullet. I dump some fruit, Greek yogurt, protein powder, milk and ice to make a quick high protein smoothie. I can sip that when I don’t feel like eating. I struggle to get the 100 g protein per day and this helps with that too.

I’ve become a big smoothie fan too! I just have a regular cheap blender and I have considered upgrading but it works pretty well and I am too cheap to replace something that works. I keep eyeing those Ninja Nutri- systems though.

I stumbled into this thread just to see how folks were doing in general for those of you taking the meds. Separate issue, but boy oh boy I don’t get enough protein! And I then looked at my scale’s app that looks at weight/bmi/fat%/lean mass/muscle mass/body water/DCI (daily caloric intake)/bone mass/and VFR (visceral fat), and back several years ago when my BMI was 25, my body fat was only 27% . Now that I am at a BMI of 20-21 (has been stable for about 19 mos) my body fat shows as 33-34%! That tells me, if I understand correctly, that I lost more muscle! Ugh. That said, I looked at the scale history and the fat % wasn’t consistent (maybe the scale was wonky?) b/c between a few days it would change from 23%to 35% and back and forth several times. So I am going to hope/assume the scale is wonky, though I do know I need to somehow ingest more protein.

I’m not sure how old you are, but weight loss and age decrease muscle mass. Age is a sneaky villain here, making it more difficult to rebuild muscle from weight loss or otherwise keep it. More protein, yes, but lifting and lifting heavy is a good way to build it back and keep it as age keeps trying to snatch it away.

Thanks. Age sure has a lot to do with it! I can probably work on lifting low weights, but I don’t think my lower back will like heavy weights.

Yeah, best to stay low and work your way up if your body cooperates. I started lifting years ago and never thought I’d be someone who did more than the high rep/low weight routine, but oddly, lifting heavier stuff became more and more satisfying over time. But really, being safe and enjoying your work out is way more important than what you do.

These scales that claim to measure fat percentages are notoriously unreliable.

I could have written all of this. My tastes have changed and unfortunately I am the cook in the family. Chicken is a real struggle for me right now too. I have a baggie of nuts (walnuts, almonds, pumpkin seeds, cashews and a few dark chocolate chips) to keep something in my stomach as it seems to help.

Are you sure you’re not pregnant?

KIDDING, lol. The only time I’ve had a real aversion to chicken was during my pregnancies. :joy:

That said, when I first started these meds, I’d get hungry but nothing sounded good, so I had a hard time figuring out what to eat. I still struggle with that sometimes. The protein is an issue – especially animal protein that sometimes just doesn’t appeal. When that happens, I’ll eat some peanut butter on a slice of sprouted grain bread and try again in a couple hours.

Cheese works for me, too. I can always eat cheese!

I don’t eat red meat and very little chicken or turkey, but I can turn tofu into just about anything for protein. I also eat a ton of beans. I find the weeks I eat a lot of beans, I lose more.

This concept is called “progressive overload.”

My daughter is pregnant, and I tell her all the time that the way I feel mimics the way I felt when I had morning sickness

In case if someone had such experience. We have GEHA Standard currently. Family member was just approved for Zepbound with limit (due to medical issues) by CVS Caremark. I am going to call GEHA next week, but I am trying to undestand:

  1. Are there other potential cheaper options that someone got with GEHA. This one is $250. But we need smth. So if not, will have to do it.
  2. We were considering to move from GEHA to MHBP Standard due to GEHA degradation and nopass with John Hopkins coverage (with a lot of JH doctors in the area) next year. Was anybody approved by them? People write that MHBP has good drug coverage. Or should we stay with GEHA given the approval? I will call MHBP too, but want to know experience from people.
  3. Can someone share side effects from the above?
