Weight loss drug thread for usage advice (not debating)

My husband takes his shot on Monday. I’m not 100% sure why, but some of it was thinking he could possibly go out to dinner at the weekend and maybe eat a bit more. As it happens, since he started in March, we haven’t gone out all that often.

I have to say that since he started, I’ve paid more attention to what I’m eating. Also, since he’s not eating the old fries, chips, ce cream, pasta, etc., I’m not eating that stuff either. I lost 50 lbs w/o meds so I could get surgery at the beginning of 2025, and it’s helping me stabilize.

I can’t post to the general “random articles to share” thread because it would be three in a row so I thought I’d post it here. Mods, please move it if possible.

I have been on Zepbound for 2.5 years. My shot day has moved around a bit, due to forgetting or traveling. My favorite day is Sunday, as I view Sundays as a reset and prepare day. I do laundry and yoga and other self care activities to help myself have a good week.

As far as side effects, I didn’t experience many at 2.5 and 5mg. Maybe a twinge of nausea that passed pretty quickly. But the first time I moved to 7.5 mg, I started becoming very nauseous and vomited a couple of times. I moved back to 5 mg and stayed there for a long time, until my weight began to creep up. I moved to 7.5 successfully then and now I’m trying 10 mg but I’m throwing up pretty consistently within 24 hrs of taking the shot and it’s been a month, so back down to 7.5 I go.

I think my Zepbound is arriving tomorrow. I’m not sure why but my dr prescribed the vials. I’m hoping they are easy to use.
I’m hoping to reduce inflammation. I could lose 20 lbs and be happy. I’m not unhappy at my present weight. I lost almost 20 lbs sine I started wearing compression and using a pneumatic pump on my legs. I also cut out most sugar, gluten, dairy and reduced my salt.
I’m hoping to just be able to stay on the lowest dose. From what I’m reading many microdose for lipedema. My dr said she doesn’t micro dose.
I want to try this before I explore liposuction.

I’m down 22.5% in 62 weeks on phentermine. I just needed to get rid of the noise (love that term!).

I’ve adopted the suggestion to do the shot in the evening, an hour or two after a light dinner - the thought being that you can sleep through any immediate side effects. I’ve adjusted my day several times due to travel or other commitments.

I’ve had no nausea from Zepbound (I’m on 5mg) but had consistent nausea on all levels of Ozempic.

I like to do the shots at night before bed, usually on a Sunday night. I’m on 5mg Zepbound. When I first started last year on 2.5mg, I had a few side effects – a bit of nausea, some GI upset, but nothing terrible. When I went up to 5mg, I had some headache and body aches for a day or two after taking the shot.

That went away after a couple of months. I’m still on 5mg, but sometimes I stretch it and take it every two weeks instead of every week. A couple times I’ve gone three weeks, but I do notice the headache, etc. if I’ve stretched to three weeks.

I’ve lost about 40 pounds over the last ten months that I’ve been taking the shots. Ideally I’ll lose another 20 to 25 to get to a healthy BMI, but I feel pretty comfortable right now. I don’t plan to go up from 5mg unless my weight does something wonky. I’m hoping to focus on doing the shot consistently this summer, upping my protein and exercising more. It’s just been a crazy time of life with two graduations and some life upheaval, but I’m learning that I need to focus on my own health!

I’m learning a lot reading through this thread. Looks like my Zepbound might be coming today. I’m probably going to wait on starting till next week after my family goes home. I’m a bit nervous.

After some internal debate about timing, I took my first dose of Zepbound last night—after our friends cancelled our dinner for tonight. I was nervous about the injection even though I am not squeamish around needles. I am just not very good at anything that requires dexterity. But it was very easy.

The only thing I feel this morning is a weird metallic taste in my mouth, which I read is not uncommon. For me that may itself act as an appetite suppressant.

I am never ever hungry in the morning. Generally though as soon as I eat anything, the food noise starts. It will be interesting to see what happens—though I know I might not experience much until I have been on it for a while.

Started Zepbound Friday and so far side effects are mild: a bit of nausea, fatigue, headache but manageable. A day of itching at the injection site. The injection itself wasn’t as bad as I expected; being the CC overachiever at heart, I watched the Lilly video and read the package insert carefully first  As always, nice to find this thread and a group of intelligent folks sharing experiences and tips!

Hitting hydration, protein, and fiber targets but need to up veggies and add in exercise. Not really looking forward to more cooking as we have become accustomed to takeout or grocery store prepared meals. So weird to feel so little interest in food after a lifetime of overeating!

One thing about being on a GLP-1 (for me) has been not really ever thinking about what to eat or how I am going to eat it. I have a hard time coming up with things to make for dinner or having the desire to buy the ingredients and prepare it. Having to do so, causes a daily stress for me. I’m not mad about it, but it is a problem for my non-GLP-1 husband, who misses my creativity in meal-making.

If it were just me, I would likely eat something very simple for dinner, that I can have ready in 10 minutes or less. I don’t care about food anymore, but I realize I have to get something in me for the nutritional value. Grocery shopping is also problematic because I don’t buy very much at all. H has to come with me and get the things he wants because my brain no longer thinks about what food I or anyone else in my house may want.

I just saw an article about this and it’s so true. I can not stop ordering perfume. I’ve spent WAY to much money and now need to cut myself off.

Many users taking GLP-1 medications (like Ozempic, Wegovy, and Zepbound) report sudden, intense obsessions with collecting and wearing perfume—particularly sweet, “gourmand” scents. Experts believe this is a sensory substitution: as the drugs quiet food cravings and alter dopamine pathways, the brain seeks other intense sensory rewards. [1, 2, 3, 4]

I too just started but the little interest in food thing is revelatory for me. I always cooked separately for my husband since we’ve been empty nesters because we like such different foods…. So cooking for him even though I’m not interested is no issue. I eat alone because it’s very difficult for me to pay attention to my eating when I’m talking to others. I lost close to 70 pounds several years ago and have kept it mostly off. But controlling my eating is a daily struggle….I think about food ALL THE TIME. That combined with a high glucose level made my doctor offer GLP-1 meds at my last visit.

I am the total opposite. I don’t care for scents like perfume and candles because they give me migraines. If anything, I think I am even more sensitive now.

This is so interesting! I’ve always enjoyed perfume, but I’ve leaned toward light and clean scents – Philosophy’s Amazing Grace and Alfred Sung’s Shi are favorites – and I’ve never chosen vanilla or caramel or anything like that.

Now I find myself liking the more gourmand scents. Go figure?

Like @garland I have to be careful with scents. I used to be drawn toward marine or musk scents but had a hard time finding ones that weren’t too strong. Now I’m craving fruity scents (not citrus, but mostly berry) that I wasn’t drawn to before. I’m looking for an airy scent but haven’t found the right one yet. I absolutely can’t stand anything with vanilla or caramel though.

I’m obsessed with Coach Love which is strawberry based and Sakura Snow which is cherry blossom based. I just order DJNY Be Delicious which is apple/cucumber, Kate Spade’s Cherie which is red currant and raspberry and Elizabeth Arden’s White Tea.

I don’t think anything will replace Coach Love but I don’t want to become noise blind to it and it’s pricey so I’ll save it for some more special occasions

Just started a perfume thread if anyone is interested

I had half a Hershey bar yesterday. Half. It tasted great. I enjoyed it. But I didn’t think about that other half sitting there again. Except to marvel that I wasn’t thinking about it. I wasn’t eyeing it every time I saw it on the counter. I wasn’t thinking about how I would eat the rest tomorrow. I wasn’t catching myself walking to the kitchen to get it and having to convince myself to stop. This drug is a miracle in stopping the noise so far.

OMG - same!

Wondering if anyone on here is at the microdosing/maintaining stage and if so, how often are you taking the shot and how much?

I was watching an unrelated show on TV and one of the people mentioned that when he was feeling like he put on a few pounds, he would microdose some Ozempic (take a shot every 2 weeks). I’ve also heard of someone who does it once a month.

I’ve ordered one more month at 5mg (Zep) and then I’m thinking of going back down to the 2.5mg (for cost reasons and because I don’t notice a huge difference in reduction of food noise between the 2 levels) or trying to space out the 5mg to every 2 weeks.
