Weight loss drug thread for usage advice (not debating)

Something I learned recently about the Medicare Bridge program - you have to be on actual Medicare Part D. Not something with equivalent coverage that Medicare deems “creditable coverage.” So if you’re, say, a military retiree/spouse on Tricare (which otherwise has excellent prescription coverage), you’re not eligible for the $50/month GLP-1s, even if you otherwise meet the criteria.

If anyone has found otherwise, please let me know! As my doctor said, “we’re all still figuring this out.”

Deb, your husband might want to try Zepbound. It tends to have fewer GI side effects than Wegovy, and some people who can’t tolerate Wegovy do fine on Zepbound.

Interesting article. So many medical conditions that may be helped with GLP-1 meds.

My sister has PMOS (used to be called PCOS), sleep apnea, overweight, high cholesterol, and a breast cancer survivor. She asked what the likelihood is that her insurance would cover her, then laughed and laughed.

Took my first 1.0 Wegovy shot yesterday; while I never felt any effects from the first two levels, this dosage is making me feel nauseous enough that the idea of eating is not at all appealing.

Hoping my body adjusts in a few days and appetite is reduced not due to nausea! Electrolytes didn’t seem to help much, so trying some ginger tea.

My doctor recommends citrus for nausea caused by GLP’1’s. Like literally sucking on a lemon. While I wouldn’t take advice from the internet in most cases, this is obviously a no risk thing to try. It did work for me with low level nausea making me not want to eat.

When is it appropriate to request an increase in the dosage of Ozempic? I have been at .5 for about 18 months. I had initially lost 35 pounds but in the last four months I have gained back six pounds. Is it reasonable to ask to go to .75 or 1?

Absolutely reasonable. I have asked for an increase if it’s only been a couple months and I’m feeling good (ie no negative side effects) and weight isn’t changing.

I agree. As long as there’s a higher dose to get to, that’s what they’re for

Sucking on lemons can damage the enamel on your teeth.

Almost 2 weeks on Zepbound. So far, so good; I’ve lost about a pound. My big issue is that I’m not hungry. My usual was get up, have coffee and then breakfast (plain yogurt, fresh fruit, a couple tablespoons of muesli). Now, I drink my coffee and that’s it. I have to force myself to eat throughout the day, which is not good at all

I thought I’d renew my scrip for 2.5mg, but the record shows no refill available at that dosage, with 5mg available to fill. I’m not sure at all what to do. I guess I’ll send a message to my doctor and see what she says.

Just checking in - I’ve been on Wegovy pill for 2 1/2 months and have lost 16 lbs. I did the 1.5mg pill for 1 1/2 months and switched to the 4g pill about 3 weeks ago. The 4mg seems less effective, oddly. Maybe the body is getting used to it. I am stopping the pills today due to an outpatient eyelid surgery next week (they wanted me off the pill even though I’m awake during surgery). My PCP said to take some leftover 1.5mg after surgery for a week before going back up to 4mg. It seem to start fast and slow down, guess that’s normal. Not sure if I will up to 9mg after surgery and finish 4mg, will see what doctor says. I am doing a lot of hand weights and feel like I could lift truck without too much effort - perhaps the weight is also some muscle building?

I lost 23 lbs on Wegovy over the last year and would like to lose 20 more. All of the weight loss happened on the first 8 months and Ive been stalled ever since. I’ve had zero side effects even at the highest dose and feel great. Even at the highest dose, I can eat whatever I want and still have food noise. It is a lot less food noise, but it is there. The biggest change is I can now realize I am full and stop eating. Before, I never experienced “full”. I am going to switch to Zepbound this week. Has anyone else with a similar experience switched?

Interesting observation. I’ve been at 2.4 for a very long time. I had one does of 1.7 left from before the increase that I decided to use up before starting Zepbound. I seem to be having better noise and hunger control on the lower dose.

I’m 3.5 weeks in and have lost about 3 lbs. I’m scheduled to move up to 5 mg on Sunday, hoping to continue with no side effects. My big problem is that I don’t feel like eating. If food is put on front of me I’ll eat it, but I just don’t think about food. Weird, because I have always been a live-to-eat sort of person.

Protein is the hardest. I get ~1,500 cal/day, with more if I exercise. To get what they say I should be getting in grams of protein, I’d eat nothing else. My husband drinks Fairlife protein, but he gets a lot more calories than me.

I haven’t been to the Y as we’ve been at our 2nd home, but I have been able to walk around 3 miles/day.

My husband is down 60 lbs since he started in March.

I always get my 100 grams of protein but have trouble getting all the calories in. I’ve had to grab a snack bag of chips to pump it up a bit.

How do you get the protein?

My question too! I am trying to get as much protein as possible and I am at 50 g a day, occasionally 70 g. Never 100 g!

I eat salmon 2 to 3 times a week and I eat cottage cheese and blueberries every day and sometimes twice a day. I make my own chicken nuggets with canned chicken, egg, cottage cheese and shredded cheddar. I make chicken salad with hard boiled egg. I eat a lot of chicken breast and thighs cooked in the oven or stovetop. I have started eating more beef and pork because I’m getting a bit tired of chicken but still try to limit it. For protein filler I’ll have Premier Protein (I like the chocolate). I seem to be able to get to my 100g protein but when I’m eating fish or chicken, it is harder to get the calories in.

Isn’t 50 low?

Is there a link to a recipe for the chicken nuggets?

I make a “cheesecake” with cottage cheese, yogurt, eggs, cornstarch and berries on top. (I cut the sugar, which is minimal anyway, in half)

Eta: link to that recipe, in case anyone is interested:

Too low! But I eat mostly lean protein and veggies/fruit. Not enough, I guess.
