^^^
Oh, the poor guy! And poor you! I know it’s not funny but the visual had me laughing. Does your area have any public transport for elderly or disabled people? I live in MA and my mom applied for “The Ride” which is run by the MA Transit system. She has severe scoliosis and can’t walk or stand for long periods. She qualified for the program based on her disability. She calls ahead and a van picks her up and takes her anywhere she wants to go for two dollars.

It has been a life saver since all of us “kids” work and a lot of her appointments are during the day.

Anyway, off topic, but it might be something to check out for both of your parents.

Next weekend will be my big challenge. Feeding my extended family of ten on Sat. and DH’s family of ten on Sun. Aside from the challenge of doing two big meals on consecutive days, I’m a little worried about how I’ll get through it w/out blowing my new healthy eating habits to bits. Some of the dishes def. won’t be the healthiest but I’m cooking them by popular demand.

DH’s sis called today to ask what to bring. DH told her a dessert would be fine to which she replied "What dessert should I bring? Mom told me that you and PackMom were on a “skinny kick”. It’s a little annoying to me that I’m trying to change our eating habits for the long term (DH’s family has high incidence high BP and strokes) and they make little jokes about us.

They haven’t seen us in six months so will prob. be shocked that DH has lost twenty-one pounds. He’s worn size 36 for years. They got so baggy, we went to the mall last night and size 34 fit him. I’m so proud of him and hope he doesn’t blow it next weekend because family comments “eating like a rabbit” etc.
At the mall we ran into Dh’s co-worker and wife whom I’ve only talked to a few times. She mentioned my weight loss and then asked “are you all right?”… as if I might be sick! What??? Then went on to say she had lost weight before but always gained it all back…very encouraging. I’m constantly surprised at weird comments people make.

packmom: she is just jealous! And probably feels guilty that she put the weight back on. I am letting myself eat whatever I want on Christmas day but in moderation. The only thing I will have two servings of is my Aunt’s Peanut Butter Creme Pie and my Grandma’s Date Pudding. :)

BP = 118/69 YAY!
P= 80

Didn’t exercise today but I will tomorrow for sure. My belly flab feels looser.

You can lose inches and not pounds MANY TIMES. Keep track of EVERYTHING you put into your mouth. Surprising how it adds up FAST! Sparkspeople.com will help with that.
Start a little habit of exercising just 10 minutes a day. It will add up !

I liked how the nurse at the doctor’s office handled my weight loss. When she entered my weight into the computer, a warning popped up on the screen, “17% difference! Check A, B and C” (I guess my old weight was still in their system). The nurse looked at me and said, “So, you want to get back into running?” and just clicked to close the warning popup. To her, I obviously did not look like a person who needed her A, B and C checked. :)

Went to a local burger place which I used to love. Ordered the burger, shake and half onion rings half fries combo. It didn’t taste the same. Ate the onion rings and the burger. Should not have finished the burger since I now feel stuffed. I ate a fry and decided it didn’t taste that great and asked myself was it worth eating. The answer was no. Before I would have finished everything. I guess my stomach is smaller and my taste buds changed.
EPTR- great that your H noticed.
Packmom- since I lost weight I have had a couple of people asked me if everything was Okay.

My boss was concerned about my weight loss as at this age, it could be due to a health problem. I just told him that it was intentional and he said that I look great and that he has some weight to lose (he’s tall so it doesn’t really show).

I think that many may see the change but are worried that it could be due to a health problem. If they know that you work out like a maniac, though, that won’t be a concern.

mom60, I think you really do lose the “taste” for things once you give them up for awhile. We used to eat burgers and fries once a weekend. Haven’t had either in months. Went to Wendy’s today after a movie (w/ no popcorn. We used to get the large and eat it all) and ordered chili and a small salad and didn’t even think about the burgers. You are right, it you catch yourself thinking “is this really worth it?” the answer is usually “no”.

Will see my extended family next weekend for the first time in eight months. The comments should be interesting.

I wish I could lose my taste for chocolate. When we go out to eat, I won’t get dessert unless they have molten chocolate lava cake. Lately, everywhere we go they have molten chocolate lava cake. It’s a conspiracy.

Bceagle, agree with the dark chocolate thing. It actually does have health benefits and a small amount a few times a week is actually good for you from what I hear.

Packmom: good luck next week. Wear something that shows off your new body. You worked hard to get it.

Had a good eating day. Find the less I indulge in pop and processed foods, the less I crave them. I was near tears last week desperately missing my pop, cheetos etc… Having a much better time now. Nervous about weighing in Thursday. Hopefully my efforts will show.

I agree with the dark chocolate thing too but the molten chocolate lava cake isn’t a small square of chocolate and I’m guessing it has plenty of added sugar! It’s that warm sweet, chocolaty center that gets me every time!

The trick is to convince someone else at the table to order the lava cake then just take a few bites! We were lucky while DS was home - he loves that as dessert in restaurants, so we’d order with two extra forks. He ate so fast that I was in no danger of over-indulging! I love all the restaurants that have mini-desserts but unfortunately lava cake is never one of them.

For my chocolate fix, I use something that comes with bite size portions - like Trader Joe’s dark chocolate nonpareils. Then I take one and slowly nibble and let each tiny bite melt in my mouth - very satisfactory.

Trader Joes has incredible desert sections, both frozen and non-frozen. Every once in a while, they have a dessert in the sample booth and I always take a sample because it is small. The last time was Thursday where they had a thin cookie with cookie butter spread. You don’t want to know what cookie butter is.
