mommusic,
"MiamiDAP–this is a SUPPORT thread for people trying to change their lifestyles to be more healthy. Your negative attitude of “diabetes is inevitable” is not really helping here. "
-I meant it for myself, your negativity toward me is not supportive for me here. I never use language like this, but I thought it would be funny to repeat it. I hope I made your day, be supported, lugh your heart out. Although they say it is a symptom of PBA, cannot laugh uncontrolably anymore either, this one one of my life’d greatest entertainment, I guess, no more, might end up on drugs after that. Sorry for this negative remark again.

SnowflakeVT,
“MiamiDAP, maybe you need to be in Cancun with me and get some vitamin D from the beautiful sun?”

-I do not like Cancun (I never been there actually, but I heard that it is very commercial and crowded place, sorry for negativity), will be in Cozumel for 2 weeks in March. Now it is not a good season there (sorry for negativity again), it s considered to be a rainy season. We go to Cozumel for 2 weeks every year in March and we see light of Cancun from there. I have too much sun, lots of sun damge. Not from trips to Cozumel, I do not come tanned from these trips, I stay in shades and wear spf 40 - 50. I swim outside every day in a summer and get very tanned, I hate it actually, but it is inevitable, no matter what spf you use (again, apologize for negativity). My last blood test was good, all numbers were in “normal” column, except for HDL which was way above the normal range so it ended up in “abnormal” column, but nobdy is complaining (here is my positivity).

I’m another one in the curly, thick, wavy camp. When I let it dry naturally in the summer when it’s humid, I’ve been known to be mistaken for Kramer!!! HAHA.

I’ve never been a hat person but will wear a headband or one of those around the back part of the neck ear muffs.

Lump of positivity from newbie here:
Weighed myself for the first time since Dec 1st when I started exercising and (somewhat) eating better. Lost 4 lbs! So very happy.
Even though I’ve been at the gym 3-5 times per week, I certainly indulged in way too many Christmas cookies.

Feeling more strength in my legs, especially. Excited by the prospect of more rapid weight loss now that cookie season is officially over in my world!

hey everyone,

I have periodically sort of checked in on this thread without ever posting. I was at my heaviest ever weight at the beginning of December. A co-worker told me about loseit.com so I have been using that daily.

I have a crazy, crazy work schedule and it is likely about to become crazier, so I have a hard time fitting exercise in. I am following the calorie intake that loseit tells me to do and I have lost 5 lbs. since Dec. 10. I did cheat a couple of times over the holidays and I have not really exercised, so I am happy.

I would like to lose a little faster, though, so I did go into loseit and change my weekly weight loss goal from 1½ lbs to 2 lbs a week. That gave me fewer calories a day. I still may not lose the 2 lbs a week without the exercise but it may ramp it up a little. Hopefully I can figure out how to fit in walks or something when the weather gets better.

If nothing else, maybe I can figure out how to walk around my work place a little more to burn more calories.

Good for you Musicmon!!! We’ll take all the lumps of positivity we can get!

Welcome, bajamm!!! it sounds like you are off to a good start! I find it hard to find a good time to get to the gym but i am trying to make up for it by going for a brisk walk when I can. Even if it’s cold out, it feels good. Sometimes, i even walk up and down the stairs or do small weights while I watch tv. Every little bit helps!

Keep up the good work!

MiamiDAP, this is my first all-inclusive and first Mexico trip … My resort is very clean and nice and service is excellent. I did see some hotels that make me glad I am here (Iberostar). We did go to Cozumel for a day to dive and snorkel … Great weather in both places but the water there is more calm for sure. Regarding the weather … I am from the Northern US and this 80 degree weather is heaven for us. The only rainy day was yesterday, and that was a beautiful day for us. Sounds like you have a great plan with 2 weeks in Cozumel each year!

I am eating lots of fruit and veggies here … Hopefully all the moving and exercising and good eating will cancel out my pi

How can you not like a place you’ve never been to??

I am now going to get back on track - -diet and exercise. Dont like how my clothes are fitting and we are planning a ski trip! I just treated myself to some new ski clothes (my favorite ski store is going out of business ) so its official!! Back on track for me!

Our town pool opens in only 6 months…MIGHT be just enough time for me to WANT to morph into a smaller size for a new tankini! :)

Run, don’t walk from the people telling you to eat fruit all day. In the end, it all comes down to what converts to sugar - so carbs & fruit are up there. Don’t get me wrong, like anything fruit is good in moderation, though wheat belly would say stay away from bananas, grapes and mangoes. ALL veggies are good except for potatoes, but the occasional sweet potato is fine. And all wheat is bad if you’re goal is to lose weight.

The one thing every diet would agree on is exercise…doesn’t matter as much what you do, long as you do something.

No matter how much I lose, I am not getting into a tankini! There are too many parts that are permanently stretched and do not like they are going to firm up. It is what it is. Just want to be healthy!

Congrats to musicmom! Just when I hoped to be able to get back to exercising, I have caught a terrible cold (which I hope isn’t the flu). Yuck!

ellemenope- sorry you are under the weather, hoping also it is ‘just’ a cold.

CountingDown- no matter what size I am, there are always tankinis from Lands’ End that I can find that make me feel presentable. Nice fabrics, GREAT coverage for 50+ yr old ladies like me and they wear like steel. I swim every day all summer…and then hang out at poolside and read on my Kindle and chat with the other old folks.

Of course, this is all AFTER a 7-9 hr shift at work so sometimes I NAP in the sun.
Love it!

A few years ago I gained 50 pounds over the summer just to see if it’s as hard to lose the weight as everyone says it is. So after I gained 50 pounds I lost all of it in only 3 months. It wasn’t hard, all you need is dedication. I ran about 3 hours a day, and lifted weights for about an hour. I didn’t have any break days or make any excuses, and I ate less than 1200 calories a day. It doesn’t really matter what those calories consist of, I just made sure most of it was protein so that I’d keep most of my muscle, which I did.
I wouldn’t recommend anybody lose weight as fast as I did because it might be dangerous, but it just shows how possible it is and that you really don’t have any excuses if you need to lose weight.

bl4ke360–you are being sarcastic, right?

Overweight people are not capable of running 3 hours a day. In fact, very few people are! And less than 1200 calories a day is starvation, (esp. if you are exercising as much as you say you are) bad for the body, and not a sustainable diet. That’s why people rebound and put the weight back on.

I’m glad you are in such stupendous shape that you can run a marathon every day.

Okay…

Losing weight is simple math. Calories in vs. calories out. Being healthy is about more than losing weight. It’s about the kind of calories that you put into your body and it’s about the other reasons to exercise…cardiac health, stress reduction, bone density, etc.

^Common misconception. Today we know that the body does not treat all calories equally. Sugar is processed differently from fat.

Not only that, but different types of bodies process things differently. I don’t know the details but modern biology is discovering new things about body metabolism all the time.

I do agree there are other reasons to exercise than losing weight. That’s why even slim people need to stay active–for the heart, lungs, bones, etc. etc.

Wow!! Congratulations on your weight loss.

I believe bl4ke, is a student based on previous posts and I’m thinking trying to pull our leg. If indeed this “story” is true, it sure sounds very unhealthy and very poor decision making!
And to use some of bl4ke’s words, as an educated college student " you really don’t have any excuses" for making those poor decisions!!! :)

Carry on Weight Loss people! :)

Wow, bl4ke! That is amazing. If I can get up the stamina to work out for two hours, sometimes, I will consider that good. I have never worked out for four hours every day, that is out of my league, I think.
