Can you just take a walk or something? I think the second day after a tough workout or run is usually worse than the first.

I’m going to give this another try after a months long set back that started in Sept. I’ve been going wheat free for a few days, because one of my weaknesses is bread. Didn’t do so great the first couple of days – ate a lot of candy. But, I think I’ll keep trying this for a little while out of curiosity. It does seem like I maybe eat a bit less when I don’t eat wheat, and that maybe I don’t feel as hungry. But it has only been a few days, so we’ll see. I did eat some einkorn spaghetti, though, which is an older, and I think, healthier form of wheat, so not going completely wheat free, I guess. Planning to make a stir fry for dinner. And tomorrow will get to the gym again.

Yes, I am on board. My son goes back to college this week, so I won’t have any excuses about time or food. It was clear this month that I am good at avoidance of good habits, even when I know what to do. Between the ice storm, which threw off my good outdoor exercise, and the junk food that my son and his friends brought in, I have not made progress after the holidays like I thought I would.

My goal, get up early and do indoor exercise 3 days a week, and plan my meals and snacks for the work week.

I’m back too! Started on a better diet and exercise routine at the New Year (along with the other 500 people at my gym :()

Want to lose ten pounds by spring and SUSTAIN it! I was feeling very low energy and bloated. After just a week limiting my carbs and exercising, I feel more energetic and my waste band is not threatening to sever my body in half!

I did the workout after all! Yay! My hamstrings were fine so I guess I was making an excuse, but I did it so no harm done. My weight is really fluctating day to day in a way that I suppose is “normal” but isn’t normal for me at all… this morning I was back at my Christmas weight. So I’d have to lose over 3lbs this week to have any loss at all. So, this week is probably going to be a wash… but I can lay the groundwork for next week to be better.

I just keep repeating, “One Day At A Time!” If I keep thinking “I only have 4 months, I only have 4 months!” I am going to make myself INSANE. Yesterday was a good day. Today will be an even better day. One day at a time!

Mom60 - one of the best parts of my weight loss was the ability to climb hills and staircases to beaches and such without stopping every couple of minutes to catch my breath. Currently I’m just trying to keep weight from creeping up; with 10 days until our short Sanibel trip I don’t expect to really lose weight.

Oh yeah - main goal is to keep from injuring anything else. Ankle is stiff from the plates and pins but otherwise not too bad, wrenched knee is more or less healed, and broken toe is only a bit sore. I practiced walking on some crunchy uneven snow yesterday and feel prepared to hit the beach, especially since beach walking in Sanibel involves frequent stops to examine shells. And whatever on the bathing suit - not great but oh so much better than three years ago!

You deserve an “Atta girl!”, Ema. Have you considered only getting on the scale once a week?

I got my run in this morning which inspired me to eat sensibly when I went out to lunch. Salmon and steamed veggies, skipped the rice. Then ate a rather large honeycrisp apple when I got home. :)

Marilyn I am so jealous; I could use a thawing out. Have a wonderful trip!

I went to my brother’s gym yesterday. Slightly different machines, and equipment so I am sore in new places. Today I drove most of the day, but I did load a weight bench, bar bell, and a bunch of weights into my car! Had a fairly healthy lunch even though it was BBQ with ds. (Pulled pork, a vinegar based cole slaw, a small serving of baked beans (not sweet), a taste of mashed potatoes and a taste of brisket. I’d have had collards, but they had run out.)

I posted yesterday, and gained a couple of pounds overnight :0. I didn’t think I ate THAT much. Maybe too much salt? Maybe I should not announce my intentions. The universe mocks me. pfft. However, I found some frozen soup in the freezer that I think will help me get back on track. Wish me luck.

I only actually count a weigh in once a week, but I noticed a trend of gaining and losing the same 1-2bs each week that went on for over 6 months, and the only way to keep from plateauing is to make sure I don’t have that crappy Monday weigh in that sets me up for failure the rest of the week (like I had this week.) I have to keep tabs on it to make sure I am having the downward trend I am supposed to without an early week spike. My weight never fluctuates from one day to the next by more than 0.5lbs unless I’ve done something REALLY bad.

I just keep reminding myself what a huge difference 5lbs makes. 5lbs shouldn’t be THAT hard for me to lose at this stage in the game, and that’s all I gained. When I first lost it I was so stunned that such a small amount of weight made such a large difference in my appearance. I have to remind myself that now that it is gain instead of loss, it didn’t become 20lbs, it’s still just 5 pounds. 5 pounds isn’t insurmountable, and 4 months should be plenty of time to lose 10…

I swear weight loss is 99% mental. You have to be TOUGH, and I am not… I just have to keep telling myself the right things until I believe them.

Don’t even know what page this thread was on - remember when it was always up top? Haven’t been on much because of sketchy WiFi at the hotel and the new format, but now back to business.

Unfortunately my estimate of gaining 3 pounds during our short jaunt to Sanibel turned out to be completely accurate. And we only had 2 days of sun out of 5! Not to mention the horrendous driving through Indiana. Never saw so many vehicles off road, both going down and coming back. I did indulge myself although not completely off the charts; now back to business so if it ever warms up here, my light weight clothes will fit!

How are y’all doing doing after the Superbowl noshing?

I lost 4lbs last week inexplicably, and didn’t have my Monday morning weight spike. If it doesn’t spike tomorrow either I am probably in the clear and will maintain the loss. I’d like to lose 5-10 more and had all but given up hope until yesterday’s weigh in.

I am planning on packing one of those giant containers of goldfish crackers for my honeymoon and not sharing any of them at all with my fiance. And some oreos. Now that it is crunch time I am feeling very deprived… no treats for me until the end of May now. I took too long to recover from Christmas. My rehearsal dinner and bachelorette party will be boring with everybody eating pizza and cake without me. But it will be nice knowing I didn’t spend an arm and a leg on an extravagant beach honeymoon only to feel uncomfortable in my swim suit the whole time. 3 months and 1 week left.

Congrats on the weight loss. I bet by the time the honeymoon comes you won’t want those goldfish crackers.

My good intentions haven’t paid off. I am eating fairly well but have not lost the few lbs I put on during my San Francisco long weekend. I think the culprit might be I have been indulging in a glass of wine a few nights a week the last few weeks. I rarely drink and I think I will go back to that habit.
How is everyone else doing?

But even if you do want goldfish crackers, why not plan for how to eat them? Maybe you’d be better off getting a box of 100 calorie packages. Or saying you’ll only eat them when you drink ___. Or that you’ll only have them on the weekend. Of course you should enjoy your honeymoon, but I don’t really recommend falling off the wagon completely either. I enjoy pasta much more now that I only eat it at restaurants.

Hello all … I am still with you, just got a little distracted between new CC, Facebook movies, work, and the new American Idol judges. Oh ya, and the awesome snow in the northeast so I can cross country ski like a mad woman!

But, I need to start recording my eating again because my weight loss has stalled.

Did anyone else see Biggest Loser final last night? I was appalled that they let Rachel go on like that … Still waiting to see what she or her doctor say about being 105 pounds. I like my muscles and curves!

I need to get back on the program. Need support !! Help!! I have the incentive just need to get in gear!

Emaheevul - good news on the weight loss and don’t open those packages of goldfish and Oreos unless you’re in your bathing suit in front of a mirror! That may help your self control.
And don’t forgo a sliver of pizza and a bite of cake - I’ve found that allowing tiny tastes of treats keeps one from being deprived. Although my current definition of “tiny” has changed from the past, “tiny” now being anything less than the full portion.

jym60 - We support you! Can you use the incentive to inspire you; if it’s an event, put a picture of your dress or the invitation on the refrigerator as a reminder? Add your program back one step at at time - 10 more minutes of exercise, one more glass of water, one less slice of bread; whatever you found successful in the past.

I joined in snow removal activities today (still careful walking with the stiff ankle) and it’s not my fault DH suggested lunch out (Baker’s Square) afterwards for the family. I did bring home half my chicken salad sandwich and asked for a takeout container with the pie so I could immediately put half the slice away for another day.

Just checking in … still not used to this site after the big change in format. I’m back on track in terms of exercise and smart fueling; I also have a FitBit which helps me see just how sedentary I am once I’m in the office at work.

Reviving the thread. I need to get serious, and misery loves company… Anyone tried the DASH diet? DId you like it? How hard was it?

I found this on the DASH diet: <a href=“DASH diet: Healthy eating to lower your blood pressure - Mayo Clinic”>DASH diet: Healthy eating to lower your blood pressure - Mayo Clinic; I like the examples they provide and advice for meeting the standards, this seems like a good article on it if this is something you want to try.

It looks interesting. I would be hard pressed to eat as many servings of anything that they are recommending, but the low sodium part isn’t hard for me… most days I eat 1500-2000mg or less. It seems like a legitimate diet to try. The tricky thing about sodium is getting used to the hidden sources, like beverages and breads. It’s not enough to buy low sodium versions of things and stop using as much table salt, you have to choose naturally low sodium foods to get that low imo-- “low sodium” versions of high sodium foods are still major sources of sodium. If you’re not already doing that, you might struggle at first but you can do it and you get used to it. I was bad and ate a slice of crazy bread the other day with the butter and parmesan on it ,dairy allergy and all, and the thing that was most striking to me was how intolerably salty it was-- it never tasted salty before! I’ll never touch the stuff again, it tasted like pure salt. Your taste buds adjust to the lower sodium and you won’t want really salty things anymore, they won’t taste the same way they do now anymore. It’s nice to taste flavors other than salt, salt can really mask a lot of wonderful flavors.

I got to around 10lbs from goal and had to pretty much stop eating grains altogether to get the rest of the way-- no way I could eat 8 servings in a day. I am still 2.5lbs from my first weight goal and would actually like to lose another 5-10 more, depending. I am getting frustrated because I don’t want to really get much thinner, I am getting to a very nice and healthy size, but I want to get LEANER and the more weight I lose I am just getting thinner instead of leaner. And I am losing a lot of weight from my face and upper body and not my hips and thighs, where most of the fat is still hiding… I am not even sure if I like the way my face looks right now and it will probably get even thinner before my thighs reduce at all. I don’t want to look back at my wedding photos and think, 'jeez, I looked hungry!" So, we are taking it day by day and I am trying to decide what to do. I am not happy with the fact that I can’t get rid of a muffin top or thighs that rub together and chafe and jiggle without looking too thin in other parts of the body. But maybe I am just not used to how I look now and it isn’t that bad. I am relying on other people to tell me, my body image is completely distorted now from being overweight for so long. It is hard for me to tell if people are being honest when they say I look “normal” again or if they just don’t have very high standards, because I don’t look normal to me yet.

Regardless, the light at the end of the tunnel is coming nearer for me. I am almost done.
