The “start up” walking kink I had for several days, very painful for minutes until the leg / hip joint spasm ended - went away ! Baffling, believe me, but I am so relieved. It may have been all back related said an orthopedic dr, I chatted with casually this weekend,
So I’m on the floor doing back stretches these days, and ready to start walking!
Enjoyed your link @jym626 about personality and exercise.
In the meantime, I made a batch of that cabbage fat burning soup recipe - I gravitate to the “lazy person’s weight loss” or better known as " fitting into last year’s capris as soon as possible " :-h
Thanks, @SouthJerseyChessMom . Its probably not a reliable survey so don’t take it seriously, but it’s fun.
I didn’t make it to the gym yesterday but am scheduled to go later today and will meet a friend there.
@VaBluebird - I hear ya! I am trying to get back on track too- have a lot of leftovers from a party we threw for friends last Friday. While I love and have been eating summer fruits, the other stuff has been hard to resist. Will try harder… We can do this together.
Hmm, I took the quiz Jym mentioned. It said I like outdoor activities, like skiing and hiking. Well, I haven’t done those activities in years. I’m at the gym 6-7x a week. It’s too warm in FL to do much outside, except going to the beach.
Getting back on track today now that all the parties/events are over! I’ve been gaining and losing the same 3 pounds for a month! Back to my treadmill and binge watching TV series to keep me focused. And with some of the heat and humidity gone back to longer walks with the dogs too. Hoping I can hit a mini goal this week or next and get rid of those pounds for good and keep going in the right direction. Although my fitbit is showing a really good history over the past 6 months - I’ve lost 5 BMI points and am no longer in the overweight zone! Just need to keep working during the summer when there is so much more temptations - like the really good ice cream place just down the road!
My new bike seat got mounted yesterday, and H will be jogging after work and I will be riding the bike. Excited we are doing something ‘together’. I got the bike seat via Amazon Prime - made for female comfort. I also had him tilt the seat forward some so I sit on my padded bottom.
Back from a week in Chicagoland for family and nostalgia reasons. This included revisiting many of our favorite restaurants and treating DS to dinner almost every night. So undisciplined drinking, dining, and dessert on my part.
To my great astonishment, my weight was unchanged from when we left. I attribute this mainly to all the walking we did being touristy and in airports and such. I don’t have a Fitbit or normally count steps. However, according to my iPhone, top days of steps was 15,715 and average was 8,142. And a grand total of 19 flights of steps (lots of street levels in tourist Chicago).
We got some extra walking on the flight in from San Diego when our plane was diverted to Indianapolis for two hours due to weather and they let us off the plane for a while. So we walked the Indy airport concourse where I actually found one place still open that had a fruit and cheese item. We didn’t get any extra walking on our flight back when the incoming plane was diverted to St. Louis due to weather. At least I got off my seat every 20 minutes or so during our extra hours of waiting at Midway for the plane to finally arrive.
So maybe there’s something to this walking stuff? My feet do hurt and my legs ache though.
What’s going on with everyone?
I am continuing my mindful eating and exercising (MyFitnessPal). Down a pound this week. I’ll take it! (oh, and this is after a bump in the road where I gained some by being…wait for it…careless).
I realize that somewhere along the way I have begun to look forward to my training sessions! I really do like my trainer and she really gives me a good work out. I have been doing the recumbent bike as my warm up but next time I’m going to change it up and do the elliptical.
I also am still doing Zumba. It’s just the type exercise I prefer and always have. Back in the 80’s it was aerobics (remember that term and form i.e. dance-exercising to music?), then Jazzercise for many enjoyable years so I find I enjoy the Zumba, too, which is at my gym. I just won’t spend even more money to go to Jazzercise classes. Another class I have tried and is done to music is “body works plus abs” where you do a workout with handheld weights and then abs. Eventually, I also might try a step class.
I’m having dinner at my gym buddy’s house. She’ll serve fish, veggies, maybe some healthy starch. I’m bringing fruit salad and wine. If I keep my portions small, I’ll be fine.
Had a lovely Shabbot dinner. A couple came who just flew back from Australia. I leave first, and my battery is dead. I called AAA, and the wait time ended up being an hour. Everyone was so tired, but no one would leave me alone. I feel very grateful, but also so upset that I was such an inconvenience. And before anyone asks, my car had a tune up 2 months ago, and I hadn’t had any forewarning of a battery Problem.
New battery by 8:00 am Saturday, then to gym for 2 hours. Having a trainer every Saturday is a luxory, but I am learning so much about proper form and how best to use machines.
Later, went to the turtle sanctuary, with aquariums and butterfly garden. Hung out in pool an hour. Ate a little Chinese food with veggies. As healthy a day as could be.
Back to getting to the gym 3-4X/week. I have been meeting a friend after work and we encourage each other. Have been on the treadmill usually 45-60 min (though one day this past week I only did 30 min on the treadmill.) I alternate walking and running, and have added some incline. In the time frames I cover 2.2-4.2 mi. Then I do some weights for another 15 min or so. It is plenty for me.
I have been wearing both my fit bits to see if I can figure out which might be more “accurate” and they are both kinda all over the place. Have to decide which one is the more functional one.
I have been watching some of the other people on the machines at the gym. There are people of all shapes and sizes, and all levels of workout. Some run hard and lift heavy weights. Some walk, some pedal, some read, some talk. Some are in the pool, some are in classes. But regardless of their activity level, I applaud them for getting themselves to the gym and making an effort.
