My diet was ALL rice - three meals a day. Skip ALL meat, and most vegetables. No exercise. Lost 12 pounds in six weeks.

I find I don’t miss the rice in Chinese anymore - especially if it is just white rice.

Mini, a diet of rice alone would probably make me lose weight too cause I would not want to LOOK at it after awhile! Though I understand you probably had no choice, your diet sounds like one of the many fad diets that rely on one or few foods alone. Not a way to build life-long eating habits!

We did take out Chinese last night. My strategy was doing tastings so I didn’t feel deprived. I shared one egg roll with DH, split an order of hot & sour chicken wings (skin off but still spicy enough to require slow eating), had a little brown rice, and small portion of a chicken/shrimp/mixed veggies in brown sauce dish. We ordered veggie moo shi too, but we never even opened the container because we were too full. I think basically we faked ourselves out by using small salad plates, and eating this stuff as courses rather than piling it all on the plate all at once. Whatever. It worked!

Now what to do with the leftover moo shi which is calling to us from the fridge?

Rice has a stunning amount of calories - it looks so innocent too.

It was extremely tasty! And one gets used to eating the same foods week after week - after all, that’s the way most of the world eats. I suspect that one of the reasons people eat too much is that we have too much variety in our diets, and people can’t resist the next tasty morsel.

YAY!!!

I was able to return to racewalking this morning and so far I am pain-free. I am still not sure whether this was a stress fracture or severe tendonitis. The x-ray ruled out a break and the bone scan indicated inflammation. Who knows.

In a departure from my usual MO, I only walked a 1 1/2 to determine whether my leg was ready. I am determined to stick to a very cautious plan so I don’t regress.

Life is going to be much more pleasant for DH if all goes well.

Good news, WNP2!

WNP, that is wonderful! Yay indeed! I’m knocking on every wooden surface around me. :)

I will have to do more of the “eat less” thing since I’m no longer burning 3500-3800 calories per week through running. I have not had any pasta in more than a year, and my carboloading dinner on Saturday tasted… weird. I no longer crave the white stuff.

:D
This morning my Wii Fit officially dropped me from obese to merely overweight!!
:D

Just in time for my milestone birthday tomorrow. Took 17 pounds; another 30 and I can drop from overweight to normal. Maybe by next summer…

I’m sure to go up again because I’m flying out to California tomorrow to visit our son (haven’t seen him since May) and we’re going out to dinner tomorrow night, and undoubtedly hitting In N Out Burgers at least once, and the Original Pancake House one morning, and who knows what else! I will try to be careful but I intend to indulge myself to some extent then worry when I get back. On a positive note, I will be doing a lot of walking; we’re going to Monterey/Carmel one of the days. Not to mention the airports; I promise not to take the people mover.

I saw my doctor Monday and she was delighted with me. But when I told her I did it with Weight Loss for Dummies, she told me that was an actual program. I did find a program called “Fat Loss 4 Idiots”, and several Dummies books about weight loss, but not a program with the same name as our great thread. We rock!

WNP- Yeah.
BunsenBurner- Did I miss an injury for you? I rarely have pasta anymore. My youngest likes fresh spinach linguini. I will make it when I make my non-breaded Chicken Parm. I find I am happy with just a few strands of the pasta. Note the pasta is fresh from the package. Not made my me.
Marilyn-Congrats on the weight loss. Enjoy seeing your Son. I hope you get some sunny weather while you are here. Try the In and Out Burger protein style. It is still good but minus the bun.
I am at a plateau. Have a vacation coming up in a few weeks and I know it will mean eating out and more carbs.
Any suggestions on restarting the weight loss. Increasing the cardio won’t be an option since my bursitis is still around.

Marilyn, that must have been SO rewarding to see on your Wii!!! Congrats!

“BunsenBurner- Did I miss an injury for you?”

mom60, the drop in my mileage is due to the fact that I’m no longer training for a marathon. I just ran one, and I think need a little break I will be running some, but not 40 miles per week ()

Marylin, yay - praise from Wii is worth celebrating! That thing is evil. I swear it does not know a single encouraging word. Great job!

Hooray for Marilyn! This is my goal…

WNP, that’s great news! Let’s hope you remain pain-free.

Marilyn, Congratulations on your category shift! And 17 pounds is a lot. Have a great trip.

BB, maybe you should go for a triathalon? (Just kidding - I’m still trying to get into the regular exercise habit. I’m in awe of you for running a marathon.)

I’m in a funk. I haven’t weighed myself in weeks and I woke up to go to the gym today and just could not get out of bed. I think I have gained the weight back that I had lost. Ughhh! I want to get back on track!

“BB, maybe you should go for a triathlon?”

Not in this lifetime! (i) My tailbone never healed properly after a skiing mishap, so riding a bike is a literal pain in the arse; (ii) I do not like to dunk my head in local lakes - too many Canada geese LOL.

Ate reasonably healthy tonight, but had a slice of pizza at the all-co lunch meeting. Grrrr…

EPTR, most of us have done that before. But if you got on track once, you can do it again. You know what to do! Decide what will work best for you - baby steps to get back on track, or jumping in with both feet!

Since it’s the weekend maybe you can work in some exercise - even a walk after school or a walk on each of the weekend days - don’t give up!

Congrats to Marilyn!

EPTR - don’t get discouraged. This is precisely why some very wise person started this thread. OH! That would be YOU.

It is so easy to get off track. Don’t worry about weighing yourself for a couple of days, just resolve that you will do SOMETHING each day. Even if you go to the gym and do a half-hearted workout at least you are maintaining the gym habit. Check in here every day for the next couple of days and report on what you have done, no matter how puny your efforts seem. You will get thru this lethargy.

EPTR- Maybe you and I can motivate each other. I lost my motivation too…

Down a pound from last week, which is good since I didn’t exercise enough. Hope to get to the gym late in the day today.
