Weird story of ND college football star

I think his draft status was hurt more by the Alabama game than this story

There are many parodies of this Hitler video but I agree this Te’o version is funny.

“Did he ever think to Face Time her?”
“There’s an entire women’s college right across the street!”
“He is aware that ND started allowing women on the campus in the 1970’s right?”

Dig a little deeper about Scam…

His story has more holes than the ND defense did against Alabama.

^ Ha. Hahahaha.

Manti is off campus training now according to the news. He is not in class. Does that mean he has met graduation requirements and is no longer enrolled?

Well the media went with it cause it was profitable to do so. Now they’ll likely try to ignore it to death instead of risk ND’s wraith.

Re: Youdon’tsay, It’s interesting, i get the impression the only way he can emerge from this with any sympathy is to say he was basically forced into this and come out. OTOH i highly doubt that’ll happen as he likely cares way more about the opinions of the ND fanbase and especially NFL GMs.

In fact, I think it more likely he finds a trophy wife in short order. Had this fraud been revealed before the season ended, who knows. The questions from teammates would’ve never stopped, probably the same pressure that led to “her” existence in '09. As to why not just pick out some girl on campus, he’d have to take them on dates and such. Long distance just a lot easier.

I don’t blame members of the media for not investigating the existence of the girlfriend. It was a human interest story, not investigative journalism. When a public figure says his son is serving in the military in the Middle East, his wife is a teacher, his old girlfriend lives in NYC, he goes to a burrito place for lunch, his college roommate is suffering from gallstones, he visited his beloved hearing-impaired pianist aunt last weekend; or offers other snippets of his life, it’s usually taken at face value. This is a highly unusual situation.

Maybe the dead girlfriend was his “beard”

As of last night, Donna Tei’s google plus page was up and accessible. According to her profile, she lives in Carson, CA, which is where fake girl’s funeral supposedly took place. It seems her photo was used as Kekua’s sister’s.

And no story goes without a reality show spin…

But this is not the first sad story Tuiasosopo has reportedly engineered. A source tells Us Weekly that the aspiring singer spun quite a tale for the producers of NBC’s The Voice, too — when he auditioned to be a contestant on the upcoming season.

“He had this insane sob story before [he sang],” an insider reveals to Us. “It would make for great TV.”

According to the source, Tuiasosopo told producers he and his cousins started a Christian band together and were on their way to perform at a youth conference in Nevada when they got into a “massive” car accident. He claimed a truck crashed into their vehicle, sending them flip-flopping all over the freeway. He also said doctors thought one of them might have been brain-dead, but miraculously, everyone was fine.

An insider adds that Tuaisosopo “passed a background check and psych evaluation,” which is standard for all reality TV show contestants. “Nothing came up, no suspicious behavior,” the source says. However, in light of what people now know about the Manti Te’o death hoax, “people now think the sob story is fake.”

I’m confused - who’s Tuiasosopo?

never mind - googled it.

He’s the friend who got a girl to take a photo of herself that was used (without her knowledge) as the photo of the nonexistent girlfriend. Just trying to put together that sentence underscored for me how convoluted the whole thing is. The Tuiasosopos are a huge football family. They must be, because I know this and I am not even a football fan!

Today’s news linked a story where Te’o supposedly spoke to the media about his “girlfriend” twice after he claimed to be the victim of the hoax… His story has plenty of holes in it…

"The Tuiasosopos are a huge football family. They must be, because I know this and I am not even a football fan! "

…and with which football team are they associated? just sayin ;)

with several.

Here is a link to the wikipedia entry for one of them which mentions some of the others.

I don’t see any one particular team either. Want to elaborate?

The girl whose picture was used has not been “outed.” Boy do I feel sorry for her. She looks very pretty in the photos.

No one particular team is noted. It’s just an amazing number of people from one family involved in college and professional sports.

From what I’ve read this AM it looks as if Te’o may have been duped in the beginning but eventually elaborated on the fake relationship in his interviews with the press and they ran with it. His “feel good” story spiraled out of control well after he knew that it was a hoax.
