<p>It was so nice that the race for party candidates wasn’t over by the time we got to vote (and we have an open primary). Every little bit helps a candidate in a close race. I’m glad that for the first time in so many elections this fall I can probaly vote for someone instead of also against someone. The big key will be party platforms and the vice presidential candidates. I think any of the 3 front runners can put together a good team, but we’ll see what each party does this summer.</p>

<p>I heard that over 50% of the registered voters in Dane County, home of Madison, voted yesterday. My spouse and I voted for the first time in Wisconsin. We were able to register right before we cast our ballots.</p>

<p>All three of the Clintons were in town separately during the last week. They chose to speak at smaller venues probably because they knew they couldn’t match the 17,000 who showed up for Obama at the Kohl Center on February 12.</p>

<p>The exit polls also showed Obama roughly splitting the votes of white women and the working class, two voting groups that formed the bedrock of support for Clinton in other states. Obama also expanded his support from independent, college-educated and high-income voters, the polls showed.</p>

<p>Campaign experts said the win reflected the hard work by Obama and his campaign in Wisconsin and the comparatively weaker effort by the Clinton campaign — even though the state’s proportion of women and working-class voters, and its small number of blacks, seemed suited to her.</p>

<p>“There’s a maxim of campaigns: If you’re going to campaign, move with overwhelming force,” said Mike Tate, a Milwaukee-based Democratic consultant. “There’s a reason the Obama campaign blew in here like a 30-ton bomb. They had to.”</p>

<p>Obama arrived in Wisconsin Feb. 12 — the night he won primaries in Virginia, Maryland and the District of Columbia — for the rally at the Kohl Center.

Feb. 20, 2008 | MADISON, Wis. – It was only a few minutes after 8 p.m. when the Great Dane, a brew pub within sight of the state capitol’s illuminated eggshell dome, learned that Barack Obama was leading in Wisconsin. Soon after that, the networks called the state for Obama, and Gov. Jim Doyle mounted the stage to address his Wisconsin victory party. Obama was still speaking in Houston, but the bartenders turned the sound off, and Doyle stepped to the microphone.</p>

<p>“We in Wisconsin have changed the course of history,” he said. “We are the state that decided who the Democratic nominee will be and who the next president of the United States will be.”</p>

<p>Doyle was backdropped by University of Wisconsin students sporting red “Badgers for Obama” T-shirts, all bearing the candidate’s face. At his side was Madison Mayor Dave Cieslewicz, who triumphantly declared that Obama had carried the campus 10-to-1. Everyone had expected Obama to run up the score at the famously liberal school, but as the results rolled in, it became clear that Obama had won counties all across the state, from Lake Michigan to Lake Superior.</p>

<p>He did so by mobilizing young people – first-time voters were up 17 percent over the 2004 primary, according to exit polls provided by the campaign – and by cutting into Hillary Clinton’s expected base of blue-collar workers. <p>It amazes me that the pundits seem surprised that Obama is doing so well drawing from Clinton’s base of blue color workers and uneducated people.</p>

<p>No surprise to me: He spent several years as a community organizer and grew up in a single parent home that wasn’t a wealthy one. </p>

<p>His extremely diverse background of struggle, organizing, being multiracial, the child of an immigrant etc. is exactly what’s needed to be able to connect with people across the country and around the world.</p>

<p>Yeah, it would be better than having them take your social security away altogether 'cause you “earn too much”, which is what I fear the Republicans would do. But still, I don’t think Obama has what it takes to deal with the middle east, which is why I support Hillary.</p>

<p>Our family is a huge ‘beneficiary’ of the Bush tax cuts. We would pay a huge amount more if they rolled back those tax cuts and raised the ceiling on the social security tax. Yet, I would be delighted to see the ceiling abandoned. The ceiling has never made any sense to me. Tax time makes me sick these days because I notice how little we are paying in taxes compared to a few years ago. </p>
