Wes and SAT II's

I took US History and World History, and in my essay I talked about how much I love history.

So you don’t necessarily have to have a diversified slate of SAT IIs.

think of sat ii’s and standardized tests in general as just another item that makes your application more appealing. they aren’t everything, so don’t stress too much over them. if it makes you feel better, i’m taking lin alg (finished calc 3, and basically i’m the only one in my math class) and my math 2’s were in the low 700’s. and my only other sat ii was bio. and speaking of sat’s, i never took 'em. and i got in :D.
always think of your application as a whole.

hope that helps

My daughter took the SAT II in bio in 9th grade and chemistry in 10th because those were the years those subjects were offered at her school and she intends to major in bio or biochem in college.

When she decided to apply to Wesleyan in her junior year we came across – either on the Wesleyan website or in the admissions literature, can’t remember where – a suggestion that she take her SAT IIs in diverse fields. The suggestion was that if you take a math or science SAT II you should also take an SAT II exam in literature or history. Accordingly, she took the US History test in 11th grade.

It now looks like Wesleyan is leaving it entirely up to the student to decide which tests to take and I can’t locate any admissions information that suggests diversifying subject tests. In my daughter’s case taking the extra SAT II made no difference; she actually scored a little better on the US History test than on the two science exams.

I decided to e-mail my top choice schools, including Wesleyan, about this issue. They all said to take any two subject tests I wanted. So I’ve decided to ignore my idiot guidance counselor (who has recently given me some other ridiculous advice that I know can’t be right) and listen to what the colleges told me. After doing some more research I decided to take US History and Literature this June, and depending on what happens, I might take French in the fall. The math test doesn’t seem to be for me at all.

Thanks to everyone who responded! Hopefully this thread can help someone else in a similar situation. :-)

Here are average SATII scores for enrolled students at Rice (which has higher SAT I scores than Wesleyan, because of the math scores). These are generally a bit lower than I would have expected.

hey gguys - i’m just wondering, i’m completely fluent in Japanese, but is it still ok for me to take the Japanese SAT II test and hand it in?
