Interesting choice for a possible astronomy major since an observatory is the most prominent architectural feature on campus and Wesleyan purchased its first telescope in 1835. By 1869, it was already in possession of the second best instrument in the United States, behind only Harvard’s (Potts, David, Wesleyan University, 1831-1910, p.78.)
Nowadays, most research is done off-campus in conjunction with major research universities around the world. And, get this: A NASA sponsored study of the mysterious interstellar clouds surrounding the galaxy is being led by a Wesleyan undergraduate:
