West Chester U an elite school?

This is blatantly false and it might be worth getting a new “professional.” Several students make it in each year without even getting close to 600 on each section of the SAT. I know a gal who got accepted for fall who didn’t even make 1000 total (M/CR). That’s not saying everyone with those low scores will make it in, but one certainly doesn’t need 1200+. I’d seriously consider the “professional college” credentials of anyone insisting this is the case.

West Chester is a decent state school and worthy of going to if it fits, but it’s not up there with Temple in stats nor is Temple easier to get into.

Thanks for your input, Creekland. That’s good news. I honestly don’t know where he got his information from. I figured since this guy used to be a admissions officer he might know what he’s talking about. My son is still going to apply and see what happens.

After a year or so of hanging out on CC, I am still blown away by the reports of truly incompetent and ignorant guidance counselors (yes, I’m sure there are exceptions). I understand that no guidance counselor can be an expert on all 3,000 colleges in the United States, or even 10% of them. But for something like average SAT scores, how hard is that to look up? I shudder at the number of kids who are making life-affecting decisions based on bad information from people who should make it their business to know the answers, or find the answers, or at least answer honestly, “I don’t know.”

Is he going for art or engineering? I am trying to figure out from your post. I would not call WCU “elite” either. Tough to get into, yes, but it depends on your major.

Art - Temple or Kutztown. NOT West Chester. They look at your portfolios first - you can have 1100 SATs and get into WC if your portfolio is good. But the better art departments are at TU and KU.

Engineering - I wouldn’t do WC either. Pre-med, yes - believe it or not. The program is becoming very well known. I know a graduate who is now in med school in St. Louis. WCU also has the oldest living bacteria in the world (no not in the cafeteria lol).
