I just went to their store and they quoted me $185 for 4 lines IF I had my 4 cell phones at TMobile. If they had quoted $110 for 5 lines and a free hotspot, it would definitely have been more tempting. We were pretty longtime customers but had to quit the summer none of the kids 5 apartments had phone reception with them.

You might trying looking at the website. There are very few choices now and it’s really easy to use. Choose the number of phones you want, and the amount of 4G data (500 MB is the standard, 2.5G is an extra $10/month–maybe that was the difference?–but either way the data is limited). It’s all one one page and you can see the family plan price is right there on that page. It’s super easy to see how the different choices change the plan price.

Ah, I see it, she was quote me unlimited high speed data–$70 for the 1st line, 50 for the 2nd, plus $30 per line for the additional lines, and no hotspot., for $180 plus $5 taxes. At least that’s what it looks like.

How did you get them to throw in the free TMobile hotspot? They are surprised you were able to get this with your 5 lines.

HImom, the hotspot is included on all the plans.

Which companies are better for being able to switch SIM cards when one goes overseas? Has Verizon gotten any better in this regard? Am thinking about getting a data phone at long last and am trying to figure out options that work for us – low price, some data, portability.

We pay $180 per month for 4 phones on Sprint. D1 has the iphone and H and D2 have new Samsung Galaxy S4 phones. I have an old android phone which I will upgrade next year. My Sprint plan includes a discount that I get from my employer. We never go anywhere near the 1500 minutes and have unlimited text and data which both my girls use a lot of. The Galaxy S4 phones were buy one get one free so we upgraded H and D2 for only $199 total.

How did you get $180/month for 4 phones? We are paying Sprint $227 for 4 phones WITH the AAA 10% discount, which sounds like the plan you have with the 1500 minutes, unlimited text & data. I’d be interested in getting my phone rate to drop to $180/month.

On campus, agreed. Off campus wandering around town/city, you don’t always have access to wifi. If you’re in an area where coffee shops and other business provide free wifi to customers a student can manage without big data.

This is informative. We are currently paying Verizon $225 per month, with my state employee discount, for three Androids and a basic phone. DH (the basic phone user) is appalled by this and wants to go to something with no contract. Our contracts start expiring the end of the month I’m considering going to Virgin Mobile. I’d pay about $30 per month for each smartphone and $30 for the basic phone. This would put us at about $120 per month plus tax, etc. I’m not sure if the coverage is quite as good, though.
ETA: We don’t have T-Mobile in our area.

HImom - my discount from my employer is 20%. We have never been with any carrier but Sprint since we got our first phone in 1997.

20% is a nice discount and you have an amazing price!

We supposedly have an employer discount with Sprint too. Hmmmm, maybe it expired or something.

D1’s new iphone was the $199 model with the extra memory making it $299 + taxes and fees = $422 or so.
