well i have a very different view on choate/choaties…i go to choate.
i’m a sophomore, and i’ve loved every day that i’ve spent here on this campus…and that is first and foremost because of the people in the community. it’s an impossible question to try to categorize a whole school of people into one group, so i don’t think i’d be able to answer that question.
but in response to some of the other, more inappropriate comments made in this thread–i really think you shouldn’t judge the people in our community without having had a real connection with us. i mean your allusions to scandalous fb pictures and the frequent usage of “chode” to refer to us is–frankly–insulting.
i mean i’m not saying that every single choatie is perfect, but by and large we have an incredible student body full of talented, kind, and diverse kids. in my opinion, the message i get after reading this thread is how misinformed and immature some comments have been about us…if you want to learn more about choaties–come visit! get to know us for yourself and don’t let some anonymous rival school student dissuade you from doing so.

Thanks for the reply preppie92. :)… I think some of the CCers were conveying emotions, and though I did not see the Facebook pictures, I can trust Tom’s word that they may have been bad. Clearly Choate is an amazing school, I may have even applied, it just did not seem to fit me?

Thanks again!

It’s not rival schools that give me my understanding of Choate. It’s Choate’s treatment of the rival schools - Deerfield in particular.

Thanks for the insight, though, preppie92. I’m sure it’s a nice school for the people who go there.

Choaties, during my interview and visit, were all welcoming, kind, excited to have me there/attending, and all of them extremely happy to be there.
I met so many people, and not one of them have told me, “Oh, I hate it here. I was forced here by my parents/it was the only place I was accepted/I’m miserable.” And not just because I am a potential student. There was no “sales pitch”. It was just LIKE that. There was no “Hey, look over here, this is good, ignore that, hey!” I just liked it.
I was literally told, “The first few weeks are tough as a new sophomore, but you’ll be okay because you can hang with us.” People, after asking if I was attending and my affirmative, were excited and couldn’t wait to see me next fall. It never felt fake, either.

I don’t know about partying, or the website being crappy, or whatever. I just got a good feeling there from EVERYBODY.

People were amazing.

Well, I think its been much established on other threads that every BS and high school has a few students that push the limits; I won’t go into details of others schools, because that’s just not fair. But it is frustrating to see Choate repeatedly singled out by someone who seems to have an ax to grind. That said, Choate has ZERO tolerance, the students were expelled, and I can assure you the entire student body knows this! And from what I’ve seen, you can’t do too well at Choate without putting in at least 4 hours of studying every day. And Tom, it is a great school for the people who go there; sorry you’re so down on Choate and you are certainly welcome to your opinion, but rivalry is pretty typical among all the schools (I believe the rivalry between Andover/Exeter is even stronger?), and in reality, rivalries exist among equals and students that actually respect one another.

And now for some positives…like…Choate’s math team just placed first in the State of Connecticut in the medium schools division, and its economic team placed first in the State as well. Next step for math team will be the NE regionals (where Choate placed second to Exeter from the boarding schools last year). Choate has also had 3 Finalists in the Intel Science competition in the last 3 years…and its debate team placed first in the Hotchkiss invitational earlier this year; its first Orchestra will be touring Europe this summer. All good things from very serious and accomplished students.
