@TomSrOfBoston, but regardless, under the assumption, that the score distribution would be about the same as the old among all class of learners (whether challenged learners, average learners, or elite, like most students applying to schools like Emory), her score would be on the mean. Why bother tearing her down. She is hardly below average for Emory. Her current scores would make her a typical applicant and admit who they would take seriously. If she were to only send in the old SAT score, her chance may be less, but even then they would consider her as she is still in the middle-50 (even if sitting on top of the lower quartile for enrolled students and a little below admitted). I know this may be a surprising revelation for some, but the bottom quartile is not just reservered exclusively for URMs (actually Emory does not even have enough of them to even fill the bottom quartile of any incoming class and some chunk of them make it into the IQR…I am willing to speculate that not much more than half of it is filled by URMs or even those from a low socioeconomic background of any ethnicity). You’d be surprised. Emory isn’t a stats whore school yet, but I did look on the admissions website and did not see info. about a supplement this year, so maybe it is finally trying to up or stabilize applications at the new level (at, above, or about 20k), in which case it may be more difficult to display “personality” outside of the generic common app. prompts. But I’m honestly hoping they didn’t drop the supplemental essays.
