Yeah I understand. I’m just giving it a shot. Hopefully ED and an increase in my SAT will help. Thanks.

Just get that 1450 SAT and you will have a good shot. But still, I think that you have a solid shot with the scores now.

Thanks BTB. Now I just have to wait for the dreaded SAT IIs which I’m not so confident about.

what’s a URM ?

Underrepresented Minority

It means basically American Indian, African American/Black, and Hispanic

MDawg: Think you have a good chance as URM at Amherst and Swarthmore. Know of URMs that attended overnight visits and were admitted with slightly lower SAT scores than yours. You’ll never know until you apply. Best of luck!

None of us have any idea whether you are going to get in based on your grades, race, SAT scores and class rank. Those are all factors that matter (race perhaps unfortunately but that is an entirely different discussion) but they are just factors that matter among many. If you wrote an essay like an incoherent drunk they would not admit you if you were valedictorian with a 2400. If you had cured cancer they would admit you with a 830.

People commenting have said that you would probably get into college X or Y if you raised your SATs up a certain mamount, but none of us realyl know, and that’s the total truth. There is a huge element of guesswork on the part of the admissions officers. The schools you have chosen are all great schools where you can get a great education. They are all totally different schools which makes me think you might have chosen them on the criteria of prestige rather than whether they’re a fit, especially because you said you hadn’t visited some.

My advice; Look carefully before you make your list. I thought I would really like Brown and hated it. I thought I would really like Wesleyan and hated it. I didn’t expect to like Williams and I loved it. Look at schools carefully and decide what you want not based on selectivity, prestige, but on where you think you can be happy.
