Usually colleges want one rec from a math/science teacher and the other from a humanities teacher, but having 2 humanities recs will not severely hurt you, unless your declared major is outside the humanities. If you can get a good rec from a math/science teacher though, I would recommend it.

i’ll most likely apply as a psychology major (want to major in psychology or neuroscience–heading into the field of Autism)…
I was thinking about getting a rec letter from my psych teacher because I’m taking psychology AP next year (she wrote a rec for my brother this year), but I’m worried she wouldn’t be able to write me a rec as well as my english teacher because she’ll only have known me for a few months (I’m applying SCEA)…

I was also thinking about my Statistics AP teacher who I also had freshman year for Geometry…I’m not sure if he writes good recs yet, but I’m gonna look into that…

ill agree with those who say relax

you have a long time
repost ur full stats in a year or so

you will get a better answer

lol it’s fine. that’s what I’m here for! For the additional information section, you upload a document (PDF, .doc, even JPG!) from your computer to the site. So it can be half a page or 500 pages (but I wouldn’t recommend 500! haha).
to tell you the truth, I don’t see why you shouldn’t send both. However, if you had to pick one, then I’d say do the additional info section, so as to avoid the “we don’t want extra rec letters” syndrome.
Ask the two teachers that you think can give you the best recommendations. Seriously, it doesn’t matter what subjects they’re from, as long as each is from a different subject. I had my history teacher write one, and my french teacher write the other. Don’t feel forced into the “one humanities, one math/science” box. If your english teacher and your spanish teacher will write you better recommendations than any combination of your other teachers, then go for it! And just remember, there is a possibility that you might have a great teacher next year who would write you an even better rec than either of these other two teachers! : )
I am a very prolific reader (if I might say so myself), and I spend a lot of time reading, so I provided a sampling of a few of the books that I’ve read in the past year.

Ah, kk…haha definitely won’t send a 500 page document…
Alright, I think I’m definitely going to do the additional info section, and I’ll try to find someone that can help with the extra rec letter…
Yeah, I definitely agree about the teachers who write the rec letters…do you think it’ll matter that whatever teachers I have next year will only have known me for about 2 months? It just seems to me that they probably wouldn’t know me as well, but we’ll see how it pans out :]
Thank you so much! You’re a huge help…I hope I can join you at Stanford soon! =)

Well, Stanford has no way of knowing that the hypothetical senior year teacher didn’t teach you/mentor you in the past. I would say that it would be better to have a teacher from an earlier year write one, but, if there’s a teacher next year with whom you hit it off with, then you can give them a detailed resume and then maybe sit down with them to write it. I didn’t do that, but I know some kids who did do that, and it worked out okay for them.
Good luck! I hope to see you there in fall 2011!

yeah, definitely…i think i’ll most likely go with one of my past teachers…there are about 4 teachers that i’ve had more than once, so it’ll most likely be one of them…but i’ll just wait till next year…
thanks!

I think that you need to find something that you are passionate about. Your ECs, essays, and recs are going to set you apart. So keep on getting good grades, but figure out what you enjoy doing and spend your time on a few activities that are important to you. Anyways, please chance me back (calling all Stanford applicants/alumni/everyone). Good luck!
