I think every info session talked about taking a “holistic” look at the “whole student” when it comes to admissions.
Other buzz words I heard repeatedly:
Undergraduate Research
Accessibility of Professors (but not at all schools!)
Collaboration
The library gets quieter as you go up/ The top floor of the library is silent.
“If we don’t have a club you’re interested in, you can create it”
And “Grants for summer projects/research.” Which, as a parent who is concerned that my child be able to get a job after graduation, I took as code for, “our students aren’t able to get paid internships or summer jobs”
At the state schools we visited, they touted good options, study abroad, undergrad research, internships, lots of clubs (starting your own), a school commitment to volunteering. I never once heard about acapella groups. I did hear about Quidditch and sustainability.
As the parent of an engineering major and a nursing major we didn’t tour any LAC’s. We heard all of these buzz words. Acapella was more common at eastern schools and/or at smaller Universities ( Duke, Pitt) and climbing walls at big state U’s ( Mizzou, Texas). But almost all of the others we heard everywhere.
