What are the most annoying threads on CC?

I have a friend whose D got into Vassar off the WL. She was a full-pay grandparent legacy who would definitely go if accepted and had a private school GC to make that extra call. Maybe those factors had something to do with it. Maybe they didn’t.

So what?

In answer to your question, @doschicos, I’ve actually never heard of a kid appealing a rejection. Sending more info and/or a letter after being deferred or wait-listed, yes. But that isn’t what I would call an “appeal.”

My nephew appealed his rejection to UT-Austin. He didn’t qualify for auto-admit, but he did have impressive ECs. Even though his grandfather had been a professor there since 1965, the appeal didn’t work. I figure if HE didn’t make it, the chance of just about any appeal working is slim.

I’m all for actively and aggressively pursuing a waitlist. I know many who’ve had luck getting off them. Just make other plans, hope for the best, and expect the worst. Appeals, just no.

I hears a similar story to what @consolation said in post 2677. It was a student on the WL at a school , and her counselor, from her private school, called the Adcomm, who she knew, at the college. The girl would attend , full pay, if admitted off the WL. She was admitted.

As for annoying, it is annoying when people accuse others of something that simply is inaccurate. Strawman arguments are very annoying.

@doschicos This is the only time and it was years and years ago – way back in the 1970’s before the computer age. My cousin applied to a large state school he clearly met the standards of and was rejected. He called and it turned out that two people applied with his same first and last name applied and the school sent the acceptance/rejection letter to the wrong student! So they did realize the error and admit my cousin (who not only attended the school but stayed for his MS and PhD there). Not sure what happened with the person who shared his name. But this was absolutely an administrative snafu, as opposed to the school changing their decision.

I do agree, other than an administrative fluke like that (which would be unrealistic to expect in today’s computer age), it is a waste of time to appeal a rejection.

The ones where the kid gets into a tip top school, but still seems to know nothing about it…how??

Modern Family’s Luke Dunphy. Oh, you mean in reality??? Then, no.

I am finding myself very annoyed with the threads or posts that say “Can we put an end to XXXX.” Can we put an end to all of these types of threads and posts?

The Rwandan Girl thread.

I can’t take it anymore guys. You win. I am out. Thanks to those that help.

What about the possible criminal record one? I got sucked into that, unfortunately.

I haven’t checked the quadruplet brothers thread for a couple hundred posts. What did I miss? Have they all graduated yet?

I’m waiting for the conjoined twins thread where one blames the other for a poor recommendation and a full slate of Ivy rejections.

^^ I think that thread is a ray of sunshine on this board. Far from annoying.

The threads where people keep YAGE’ing, then coming back. :-?

I had to google YAGE.

Probably a stupid question, but @MotherOfDragons, what is “YAGE’ing”?

It’s apparently drinking ayahuasca, according to Google’s first hit.

[…he said, maintaining a completely straight face.]

No, really: Yet Another Grand Exit.

I had to google YAGE also. Funny! My son calls that “rage quitting” when people flounce off games.

Thanks guys. In my nursing forum, they call it “the flounce.”

^Yes, exactly. It’s “The Flounce” or even better “The Hair Flip” in a couple different forums and facebook groups I am apart of…

Ahh… the grand exit.
Wonder how many of those then plan to start a new account with a new screenname…
