Dude, where’s my thread?
^That post combined with the avatar photo. =))
I use restroom. One of the first things I learn when I’m in another country is how to say “where is the restroom/bathroom/toilet”.
?dónde está el baño?
and then you discover that you need to bring your own TP or money to use them. @-)
I realized when typing this that it has veered dangerously into the random threads territory, so I’ll bring it back around by being annoyed at threads where people don’t talk about hooks their kid has when getting into an uber competitive college, like somehow the hook is shameful. No shame in an advantage, people. Only shame is not using it.
More sad than annoying are the “waitlist” threads. If I remember correctly some of these poor kids suffered right through the end of August last year (and probably most years).
“Anyone hear anything today?”
@STEM2017, unless it was about FA or MA, I can’t imagine doing that to a kid who needs to get their head into the school they had already committed to. We have one waiting on two WL opportunities so if the schools don’t notify that waitlists are closed by 6/1 we’ll be closing it out on our own.
Threads with hypothetical awesomeness.
Unfortunately it was quickly closed. It could have been a real contender. Thanks alot @skieurope!
oh! I am totally hypothetically awesome. Trust me!
Generic. I say restroom in the US and toilet/loo/washroom/gents when abroad.
That’s the second thing I learn. The first is “Beer, please.” Which of course will quickly lead to having to use the second phrase.
Too funny. First I learn is something to politely express when I don’t know the language or need it spoken more slowly. Second is how to order a wine. (True story, when we found out we’d be moving to Germany, before I spoke the language.)
We took a cross country road trip with elementary school aged kids just prior to moving to Japan. I thought this was a great chance for us all to take an audio language learning class. A few sessions in my daughter complained that all we had learned was how to order various alcoholic beverages and how to chat up women we meet in the park.
Okay, I am now really, really annoyed by kids who posted threads, sometimes multiple threads, about which offer/school they should choose and do not come back to tel us that school they chose!
Annoying: threads where folks gang up on their moral high ground. How’s the view up there?
Threads where a poster tells the OP to “get over yourself.” What does that really mean?
@HRSMom ^^^^ Same. I’ve been here nearly 2 years and it is usually the same contingent…le sigh.
@HRSMom I’m tempted to “like” post #2972, but I’m afraid I might be the subject of it. LOL.
@wustl93 I think we are all guilty of it now and then!!!
I gladly take the moral high ground when the OP is looking for ways to illegally claim instate status…and the view is great!
Unlike all of you, I have NEVER taken the moral high ground. You should all be ashamed.

Sample annoying thread:
Post 1: A is the first letter of the alphabet.
Post 2: And? …by the way there is already a tread for random thoughts.
Post 8: Why do you think A is the best letter? There are 25 other letters. You don’t have to always use the first one just bc it’s first.
Post 20: Lots of kids would love to have a A…
Post 30: How can you say that? Do you know how many families can’t afford an A? You have no idea what Z people go through.
Post 40: No way is an A worth $250k!!
Post 50: Have you ever even been to Z?
Post 100: Go look at Bama! They love A’s:)
