What are the most annoying threads on CC?

I am a parent, and I do think it is a bit strange for parents to post on the HS class of XXXX threds. That said I recently post on the AP score results thred…

What time are the SAT scores being released? 8-|

I need to stay off the chance threads. I am getting tired of these kids who only have reaches, and other kids chiming in and saying it’s ok to apply to so many reaches and that some of these schools can be thrown in “on a whim” after spending 10 minutes on the application. I feel like the ogre coming in and knocking everybody down.

"You’re a high match " to (name a single digit college. Or two or three.)
On what planet? Are you bored- or what?

That some refuse to believe that Ivies and D3 schools don’t find ways to give athletic scholarships is so annoying.

You’d think these top kids would research a lot of things. Not just USNews snd which forum to post in (if they get that right.)

I love … “A crappy private school is better than any SUNY.”

Again… I need to stay off the chance threads and I need to stop arguing with these kids.

The chance threads are mostly other kids replying back to each other, who have just about the same knowledge of the admissions process. Often, I see stuff like “Chance me and I’ll chance you back!” Seriously???

Chance me threads that list awards received in 2nd grade.

^ Speaking of, no, don’t write your essay about 2nd grade. You’re a freaking hs senior now.

the Harvard ones where the Harvard alumnae pretend they and only they know all the answers because, well, they’re Haaavud. Of course…

Threads where an OOS student with a zero EFC wants to be chanced at their dream schools: UC Berkeley and UCLA.

@lookingforward Uh oh, DD’18 just wrote an admissions essay on something that happened in kindergarten and how that decision has influenced her life and character…

Insecure parents who have to throw in tons of irrelevant stats to try and explain that TCNJ or High Point provide just as good an education as XYZ at a fraction of the price.

I think it depends on the situation @labegg. For example , if someone lost a parent or grandparent , or their parents divorced of course there can be long lasting effects.

Of course, it depends on the tier, But they want to know the hs kid, his/her strengths and sensibilities.
An idea to consider is, if it starts in back in time, let it primarily focus on the last year or two, what you did with that experience or the effect something had on you. Let it reveal about you today. Show, not just tell.

I generally recommend to stay away from the “2 D’s” topics.

@123Mom456 that…that’s actually a thing? Wow. Unbelievable.

@soze very random examples to bring up. The sad part is, High Point is absurdly expensive.

Oops, that should say the 3 D’s (death, divorce, disability).

The chance me threads where an overachiever acts like they’re destined for community college and lists their 4.0 GPA, 1560 SAT score, and approximately 128 extracurricular activities and then proceeds to tell us what a failure they are because they didn’t get a 1600 and didn’t have room in their schedule to take the last AP class offered at their high school. Then people respond telling the OP about their amazing application and wonderful scores, and that they have decent chances at the schools they listed (most usually Ivies). They DEFINITELY didn’t expect that response did they?

Attention seeking at its finest.
