What are the most annoying threads on CC?

Ones where people continue to post on subjects that moderators have warned about repeatedly ultimately risking a helpful thread will be closed.

Ones where parents put words in their kid’s mouth: “DS says he will not go to any school that doesn’t required a nose ring and 1 billion hours of community service.”

Ones where the OP complains that schools take too many applicants for programs and they obviously can’t guarantee jobs at graduation in the surrounding area which may mean having to relocate.

I’m finding a great many of the threads are annoying lately. I have blocked so many people that some threads are impossible to follow. I think that is a sign that I should move along from CC. So long everyone!

Ones where the OP (usually a student) blithely assures us that finances are not a concern. Perhaps we should start a list of “threads most likely to wind up with an unhappy outcome”. Many kids take a practice PSAT as sophomores; would that there were a requirement of parents to determine their EFC at that point. It would avoid a lot of disappointment down the road.

Posts suggesting scooping ice cream is a bad way for high school kids to spend the summer.

If you didn’t apply to MIT, you are a lemming.

OP asks CC to do the research for him.

“Hi, I am an international student who needs financial aid, and I only applied state schools”

I am breaking in to offer a not-annoying-but-inspiring-thread break: http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/massachusetts-institute-technology/1335649-homeless-didnt-get-in-through-the-waitlist-have-no-where-else-to-go-need-advice-p1.html

Threads with URGENT in the title - they never are! 8-|

Great strategy! Otherwise you might get exposed to views you don’t agree with.

Way to go, GMT. Another welcoming response to a new poster. I block people that are jerks. Often time long term posters really have a way of shutting down others instead of being helpful. The ignore option is very helpful. For me it has nothing to do with different opinions .

@sax

There are many long time posters here whose views I find VERY annoying. Yet they sometimes sway me, and I learn from them.

A new time poster readily blocking “so many people that some threads are impossible to follow” is akin to the poisonous attitude nowadays pervading college campuses where views that do not validate one’s own views must be smothered.

I won’t block you @sax

Oh, I don’t think you would even notice if you blocked me. I’m pretty boring…

Threads distracted by someone with a big hammer and big need to swing it. Usually some “study” somewhere. You know: I read it so it’s true.

Posters who got a 1500+ on the new SAT or a 34+ on the ACT who seek confirmation that retaking is a good idea.

I’ve decided it might be fun to answer Chance Me threads like a Magic 8 Ball. The 20 answers inside a standard Magic 8 Ball are:
It is certain
It is decidedly so
Without a doubt
Yes, definitely
You may rely on it
As I see it, yes
Most likely
Outlook good
Yes
Signs point to yes
Reply hazy try again
Ask again later
Better not tell you now
Cannot predict now
Concentrate and ask again
Don’t count on it
My reply is no
My sources say no
Outlook not so good
Very doubtful

Would that put me in CC Jail?

Haha…I love it @labegg!! I especially like “Concentrate and ask again” and “My sources say no”.

Is that a valid question? Cuz you’d might not like the answer.
