No, there is not a cover. I cover the grill sometimes, but usually forget. I’ve not had any issues. And, the BGE is bullet proof, so,…
Oooh, we also have a small electric smoker. It plugs in to an outdoor socket in the carport. Great for smoked salmon or ribs!
Our grill is in the carport. Doesn’t get snowed on, but we should probably not cook with it in the carport in case we ever have a gas SWOOSH and it ignites the ceiling.
The grill itself has a cover. We live in coastal southern California, so not much rain and usually comfortable temperature wise.
The fire pit looks something like this. It doesn’t use a lot of propane. The hose attachment has a gauge to measure how full it is. There is a stainless steel lid to cover the glass rocks and elements when not in use.
Our Weber Summit has a guage to say how much propane is left in the tank.
We get anew Weber every 15 years or so, hooked up to our gas line. The cover usually blows away in the first month, it’s fine but of course the automatic started batteries die, we just light it manually for 15 years. We do get snow here, it’s fine.
We were considering a gas fueled fire pit (on with a flick of a switch) built in to our new patio, but decided not to for two primary reasons. First (and mostly) you don’t get that smokey ambiance I associate with fire pits, and secondly, I always loose at least one s’more in the fired each time so a built in would get a little messy.
Instead, we bought a Breeo firepit to bring out during the cold months. We store it in the summer. It works very well, and the corten (rusted metal look) matches our pavers and seat walls nicely.
We have something like this that covers the entire grill island:
We only use it when we leave for the summer. It cinches tight on the bottom and stays put.
We have a Weber grill. This is either our second or third. We have a grill cover for it and keep it covered all the time (when not in use, of course). If this one needs replacing, we will get another Weber. We grill all year round, and part of shoveling snow includes the path from back door to the grill.
Our house came with an outdoor gas grill that fits exactly into the outdoor kitchen built for it. No idea how old it is - we looked for something to replace it but nothing was the right size. So even though some parts are unavailable (like the auto ignite; we have to use a lighter wand), it works fine. I hated all the fuss of our charcoal Weber grill but am very happy with this gas grill and have become an expert on steaks, lamb chops, and burgers. Husband does fish, and kindly uses the outdoor burner to pan fry fish to keep the smells outside.
We tried buying oversized covers but nothing held up that well in San Diego sun. Then I found an online company that makes custom covers. Husband worked with them, talking and emailing with their engineers, until they worked out exactly what he wanted. It was a couple of guys who came from India to start a company in the Southeast, with manufacturing done back home. Our custom cover was only $57 and has held up beautifully.
