What are your pets' names, and how did they get them?

lol…Should we guess from your screen name that you’re a VA bluebird devotee? :wink:

We have sister Siamese cats from the same litter, they are two years old. They look almost exactly alike, except the fatter one has all black feet and the skinnier one has all white feet.

My kids went together to get them and named them before they got them home. Black footed one is named Boots. The white footed one is named Almond Bark. I have no clue where that name came from.

@VaBluebird - Fifi, obviously! :slight_smile:

Cuuuute!!! Glad that you did not name them Si and Am. (the Siamese duo in Lady and the tramp). :slight_smile:

The psychiatrist I work with is a male Abbey. Family name, at least one male cousin with that name. So, when my close friend got a new golden lab, he became Abbey. She said it referred to another Abbott, but I I think it is a great name, male or female.

Indiana, my old dog, named after the family saw the last Indiana Jones movie – Indy’s father told him that “the dog’s name was Indiana”. My cat Abby is because I was going to name a daughter Abigail – I only had boys and I still wanted to use the name.

We had a lab named Daisy. Our kids named her that because she was a yellow lab. Our last dog, who died 10 months ago, was Wally. He was a labradoodle; the breeder told us that the first labradoodle from Australia was named Wally. Still not ready to get another dog.

We have a dog (Shadow) and 3 cats (Ninja, Midnight, and Olive) who are all black, so we picked their names accordingly. It turns out that Shadow’s name is perfect, as she follows me everywhere I go all day long!

Our last dog was named for our young sons. We took the first letter of each kids’ name.

Dog’s name was JAC

The thread title reminds me of this video . . . :stuck_out_tongue:

@VaBluebird, Fiona!

Our beagle’s name is Buddy because that’s what the people at the pound named him. Our yellow cat is named Harry after Harry Potter and our other cat is name Montana after Hannah Montana.

Our cats are all strays. Chester was Chessie because as a wild kitten living in the yard he looked like the Chessie Cat from the railroad ads but he turned out to be a boy and, oddly, responds only to Chester. He’s 15 and is sitting next to my elbow at this moment. But he’s also a complete jerk at times.

Billy walked in one day starving. Gained 3 pounds in about 10 days of continuous eating. Name is because he’s really obnoxiously loud like our old Siamese cat named Lily so he’s boy Lily or Billy. We think he was an abandoned older kitten left behind by some college kids (or escaped from them as they moved, etc.). He’s become the most reliable cat; he comes in at night almost on the dot of 10 without prompting. But he’s freaking horrible in the morning with a variety of techniques to force his way outside, from howling to leaping from the floor to your stomach to pitiful crying that is so obviously an act. His big thing is bothering you when you’re on the toilet. Should have called him Toilet Boy.

We also “have” a stray who comes in and eats (and mostly runs). He’ll sometimes come in for the day to sleep and we’ve kept him inside during really bad weather but he hates it. At least we think it’s a he. He’s called Henny for unknown reasons. He is weird: sits on the floor next to the bowl until I rub his back and then he eats so that must be his way of asking for affection. And he’s the only one that likes to be held. He comes in, gets petted, eats, wanders off to a toilet to drink, rolls on the floor with a catnip toy for a few minutes and leaves.

Given my avatar, I’ve always wanted to name a cat “Atticus” (maybe even “Catticus”!) but my H and DD have always said no to both names. Bummer

^^ In other words, the ideal cat life.

Scout59 - we got a baby girl kitten last week. So much fun and cuteness at our house!
We are having a hard time deciding on a name, but Scout is a top contender (one of the very best books of all time! On edit - and some of the greatest characters, too.)

There was a kitten named Atticus at our Humane Society last week.

When I was younger we had the family brown standard poodle named CoCo.

Cats: a black stray my mom brought home. She was learning Russian at the time and named him Koshka (cat).

Then we also got a Siamese. One of my mom’s favorite books/movies was Bell Book and Candle so she named the cat Pyewacket.

Our black lab mix was named Radar, after Radar O’Reilly from M.A.S.H. Like his human namesake, our pup always knew that something was going to happen before we did. :slight_smile:

We have two dogs:
Deogie and Phydeaux
pronounced d-o-g and fido

With one exception all of our dogs were rescues. We thought that they had been through enough so we kept their name. Our first golden we called Elizabeth Mayfield…a dumb dog who lived in Bev Hills…Ellie Mae.
