While there were many lessons throughout his novel, such as donāt order fish on Monday and dine out during the week because that is when service is best, I found something deeper beneath the surface: success requires hard work. I grappled with the thought that a world-renowned and well-traveled chef like Anthony Bourdain began his long love affair with cooking as a dishwasher. I was gratefully reminded that to become great, you have to put in the work. From his writings, I could tell he was motivated to become better and to hone his craft, and thatās what drew me in to begin with.
