What college did the most prestigious PERSON you know go to?

Trinity University then UT Law

I Don’t think I can work my head around calling an individual “prestigious”, but I have seen people I knew on the cover or included in the cover stories of major news magazines ( NOT entertainment or sports magazines!) with undergrad degrees from:
Washington State
Whitman
UT
Sul Ross State
Tulsa
Reed
Dropped out of college

I couldn’t begin to decide who the smartest folks are. Some are clearly better at business than the rest of us.

A family friend went to Fordham for a couple of years and then transferred to Wharton (does anyone want to take a guess at who this is?)

Most prestigious persons I know:
-Lehigh undergrad (journalism)

  • UT at Austin undergrad (engineering) and Harvard MBA
-UT at Austin undergrad (best selling author)

Most of the richest people I know are trust fund babies who inherited their wealth or women who have married prominent men (like a well known producer/director). Among those who have earned their money - one with no college degree (international developer/financier) and one who attended College of Charleston.

Smartest people I know:

  • Sewanee undergrad/UVA law;
  • Shippensburg State undergrad/UPenn vet
  • UMich undergrad/Univ. South Carolina law.

I wouldn’t brag about that if I were you, Yinous.

Maybe there is a difference between prestigious and high profile. High profile might capture people in entertainment and maybe some in business. I was shooting in my list for people who were both high profile (you’d likely know there names) and high status of some kind (they have done something significant in the world and have or had the ability to shift resources etc. and affect people’s lives).

Under that definition, I would have to add Santa Clara University and a JD from the University of Virginia.

Most prestigious/intelligent/admired/respected: Caltech

It is also instructive to look through the bios of senior leadership for any company or organization you admire. You’ll typically find quite a wide variety of undergraduate institutions.

The valedictorian in my school went to North Carolina University Chapel Hill.

I know people who have gotten MBAs from Norhtwestern and UChicago.

University of Waterloo

UCLA, but dropped out. Now a billionaire.

Two extended family members who have accumulated a lot of wealth from the ground up–no college for either of them.

A friend who has been successful in the business world, active in the community, well respected and liked by everyone–Cambridge. This person’s kids attended Arizona State, and are well on their respective ways to following in parent’s footsteps.

I take back my comment that the most financially successful person I know went to UCLA. I’ve thought of two others who are even more financially successful. They both graduated from UCSB.

I know (or knew, back in the day …) five people whose names many people would recognize. Two are entertainers - one graduated from UMich, the other attended UMich. Three are CEO’s or CFO’s of major corporations - they all went to General Motors Institute (now Kettering University) - all three also got MBA’s (Stanford, UMich, Harvard).

Occidental to Columbia to Harvard

“prestigious person”?! Wow, really, is that some kind of personal quality like ‘superficial’ or ‘shallow’?! I never even knew that someone could be prestigious! I’m afraid I really missed the boat on that one!!!

You can take this seriously, or you can take it light-heartedly. I choose the latter. Of course, “prestige” is in the eye of the beholder. I am prestigious in my own mind … but at least I didn’t tell you where I went to school.

Wow, I had no idea what a Pandora’s Box I opened up with categorizing people instead of colleges as prestigious. As I mentioned earlier in the thread, the term was meant however you see fit. Per the synonyms list on my computer, terms you might like better: reputable, distinguished, respected, esteemed, eminent, august, highly regarded, well-thought-of, acclaimed, authoritative, celebrated, illustrious, renowned, impressive, important, prominent, high-ranking, influential, powerful, glamorous, well paid.

If I had a “do over” for this thread, maybe I would have asked for the college attended by the HAPPIEST person you know. That would change my answer from Boise State to Southern Oregon University.
