What decorating trends are you slow to warm up to?

Sometimes I miss my old white refrigerator. (We got black, which looks fine with the black/white range and black dishwasher. My husband and I both dislike stainless and have been waiting MANY years for it to go out of style, sigh)

In my quest for backsplash tile, I found a good color for the little sample of quartz that I carry around. It is a light greige (beige with a gray undertone) and comes in several shapes. I am intrigued with the penny round. Is it trendy or completely out of style?

Problem–this greige looks good with everything except the buff colored paint on the wall. I wasn’t really wanting to paint the kitchen, but after this thread, I may paint it blue. Which shade of blue have you been seeing, @Nrdsb4 ?

I currently have all stainless steel - which is fine but I’m not hugely attached it it. Honestly if I was getting all appliances I would probably hop back to white. Fresh, light and crisp. Especially for a refrigerator. A stainless stove still looks good in my book. Or if $$ was no object I’d go for a pop of color stove. Like pale pink.

For any of you that like color, check out Maine Cottage or Annie Selke. There is real joy in those designs! (And blue, for many of you.)

I’ll admit I haven’t even looked, but can you get “good” appliances in white anymore? I’m not 100% sold on stainless but when I eventually do my kitchen over, would like to get a decent, probably french door fridge

My son and DIL just moved into a new, larger, house. The kitchen, which opens into the family room, is all white. I noticed when on FT with the baby yesterday, that all the handles on the white appliances and cabinets, are copper. So while white, it does break up the color just a bit.

I personally don’t like the white appliances and cabinets just because it is one large open area. The floors and ceiling beams are very dark with white walls; I personally would have liked softer colors, but it isn’t my house!

You can get a le Cornu in white ; )

Everything from navy to dark gray-blue to cobalt.

You can hardly find decent appliances in black anymore either. Black Stainless is the rage around here. But look at the floor models in the big box stores. The black stainless scratches off, and the silver stainless shows below. No thanks.

Living in Texas, ceiling fans are a must.

There are so many different styles and differences in mechanics. Our house is leaning transitional/more modern, so I have to wade through a lot of the traditional styles if there isn’t a filter in the website. Is there anything more boring than looking for ceiling fans online? I have a headache from it; I absolutely hate this. I keep putting off making a decision, and now the builder is nagging me to send in my selections.

DH is saying “whatever you think best
” but will have an OPINION if he discovers he doesn’t like what I pick out.

Did I mention I hate this?

ETA: 1st world problems, I know. I could be trying to figure out how I’m going to put a roof over my head and food on the table.

We have ceiling fans in all bedrooms and my kids now as adults are all fan dependent to sleep - lol. We’ve purchased a lot of fans in our years of home ownership and I have to say it seems 90% of them are awful!

I have seen some more recently that I like. But we aren’t currently replacing any!

I love my Minka-Aire fans. We had builder grade fans in our old house, so when we move into our townhouse 3 years ago, we took out the provided fans in the living room and master, and replaced with Minka-Aire. I am very noise sensitive when sleep, and can not stand to hear the fan running or vibrating. We looked for whisper quite and great cooling; I have been very please with the two we purchased.

Two thumbs up to Minka. The condos we (used to ) stay in HI had those, and they were awesomely efficient and quiet.

If I ever redo my kitchen, I’d love to get rid of the big, hulking refrigerator and replace it with under counter refrigerator and freezer drawers. Not sure if these would be sufficient or easy enough to work with, though.

Another vote for MinkaAire fans. We put them in when we built our house 5 years ago and they’re great. I leave our bedroom fan on 24/7 (it’s Florida) and it is still absolutely quiet. I too can’t stand to hear any noise from fans.

My builder told me that so many ceiling fans don’t really work well. Her recommendation:

Minka aire.

Countertop was installed today. Plumber will be back tomorrow to reconnect the plumbing and install new faucet. Today has been a nightmare. Nobody showed up when they were supposed to. Wasted lots of (precious vacation) time waiting. I like the quartz but it “shows” a lot whiter than it is. Makes me rethink the white backsplash I was leaning towards. sigh I really stink at designing and making decisions.

Really loving the Benjamin Moore Color of the Year: Aegean Teal. I want to paint something this color!

^ That color looks very similar to the color of 3 of our bedrooms. We repainted almost the entire house (1910 Victorian) when we purchased it in 2006. I had an idea of what colors I wanted things, but had the painter pick out the shades so it would all coordinate. We didn’t know what to do with all the bedrooms, so she suggested that color for those 3. When you walk up the main staircase, you can see directly into all 3, so she thought it best they match. But it is such an odd shade, it can look green, blue, or gray depending on what else you have in there. It’s done well for us.

Really like that color, but sadly no wall for it
