Many years ago I skimcoated over our nasty sheet paneling before painting it. The filled wall lasted a decade just fine until a remodel led to its replacement with drywall.
What trend will be the nasty “wood” sheet paneling of 2020? My guess: nasty fake vinyl or laminate “wood” floors.
I’m in the middle of tiling my backsplash. Decided on one of the decorative tiles. They were inexpensive and if I don’t like it in a few years, I can change it without losing much money. Actually, with a gift card and the reward points on my credit card, the tiles cost me nothing. Except my time. Lots of time. Because I am not a pro. But I work cheap. Did one whole side yesterday and will finish the other today. Then let dry a few days (it’s been rainy and humid here) and grout. Will be so glad to get this house clean!
The macrame talk upthread prompted me to craft an updated plant hanger. Instead of knots it uses embroidery floss for the transitions. I’m happy with how it came out. You can see it in my profile pic.
Back after awhile. Love the posters also liking blue! Our last house was deemed too blue from realtor buyer comments eight years ago- hey, I had replaced the Blue Fiber Formica kitchen countertops with a neutral shade a few years before anticipating that no one else wanted that (did not spring for granite as I assumed my choice would not be someone else’s and so much more expensive). Old house had a blue master with green bath, reversed shades in current house. Current Tampa 1987 house came with just about PINK everything- neighbors told me some were built with peach or other "colors- counters/cabinets… Our house could be labelled “beachy” with its various blues greens and beige (called antique white- who knew how many shades of white there were?).
I prefer white appliances but the stove/ over range microwave were stainless and desired refrigerator only came in stainless so I now am current. Lucky to have done things, made major purchases before shortages. Did white washer/dryer- more cheerful and easier to keep clean looking.
My very old Sauder desk is falling apart but I have to wait a few more months to replace it with the model I like. The key here is what I like, not what is trendy/fashionable et al.
Also dislike the wallpaper and ornate floor tiles- too busy.
All of our LR/FR chairs are LazyBoys- comfort over style! Mistake was the sofa- middle seat different and not good for lying down, plus hate the mechanism- dislike having to push down to fold back.
Our backsplash is only the 3" one- just paint above. Eggshell is the way to go for cleaning (even ceilings, such as humid baths and kitchen when pressure cooker spewed onto ceiling).
I think I’m tired of boxy flat-roofed houses that some locals call “Ballard box” after the area of the city where such house style began to dominate new construction a few years ago. When we first saw these houses, I thought they were super cool… now I think a good old craftsman look is timeless.
