<p>Jesse IS racist. He is nothing but a media joke to most people. I am glad he has distanced himself from Obama with his crude remark. </p>
<p>(For me, he lost all credibility when he stepped up and defended the black criminal in the Duke lacrosse case and immediately rushed to judgment in order to get in the limelight. Not only did he defend her, he personally offered to pay for her law school education. Not once did he offer any apology to the wrongfully accused young white men. :eek:)</p>
<p>I think there’s a little conflation here of things Jackson said at different times. In this latest kerfluffle, he said that he thought Obama was “talking down” to blacks, and that he (Jackson) was going to cut off his (Obama’s) n*ts. I don’t think that’s a racist comment–the first part is a criticism that you can agree with or disagree with–there’s no doubt that Obama was talking to blacks in the speech Jackson was referring to–it’s a matter of opinion whether it was talking down or not. The “acting white” comment was about a year ago, in connection with the Jena 6 situation. There, I think it might be fair to say that this was a racist comment, and Jackson was criticized for it at the time.</p>
<p>I think this is all a scam. Obama is trying to distance himself from radical black leadership of the past. In a way he is peeling off the Republican attack points. So as part of the strategy all the controversial black leaders are saying dumb things. That way Obama can legitimately disown them. It does not hurt him. He has black vote in the bag, and now wants to pick up white votes. What better way to show that he is no Wrights or Jacksons than making headlines that he does not subscribe to their thinking.</p>
<p>If it was a scam, I don’t think they would have included the part about cutting off Obama’s n*ts. I don’t think that line was the product of Obama’s brain trust.</p>
<p>I fail to see how Jesse Jackson did not know that his words were being recorded. There are many many examples of individuals making stupid comments prior to and after their scheduled segment. Jackson once had his own television show and must have known that when you’re in front of the camera everything you say can be recorded. I have to wonder how much of this was actually intended by Jackson.</p>

<p>I don’t think there’s any indication that Jackson is the type of person who’d attempt to help someone by deliberately putting his foot in the mouth and looking like a fool. I think that it’s far more likely that his mouth went in gear while his brain did not.</p>
<p>Remember, during his own last presidential campaign, Jackson used the reprehensible term “Hymietown.” </p>
<p>Given the kind of remarks that Jackson has been caught saying in places in which most people would be saying less reprehensible things, I imagine that in private what he says is even worse.</p>
<p>Sounds like a good reason to elect Obama, no? Unlike McCain who’s ready to consign his top economic advisor (sent to an editorial meeting, no less, where he accused Americans of whining) to Minsk. </p>
<p>But I tend to agree with NSM. I have not seen signs of selflessness of the part of J. Jackson, Sr. before, and the chances of an epiphany are infinitesimal.</p>
<p>Simba, since Hillary is out of the picture, you are going to have to be a little clearer on where you are coming from with your comments. Are you going to reveal yourself as a McCain supporter or not?</p>
