What did you/do you want to major in?

@zettasyntax computational linguistics?! omg that sounds so awesome!

I was intended computer science, but I’m switching to cognitive science (but with a minor in computer science), as it fits with my interests better.

Was a Biology and Classics double major. Currently an MD/PhD student at an MSTP (https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Medical_Scientist_Training_Program)

I went into college as a comm major, changed to film/video studies, changed to sociology, and got a BA in women’s and gender studies.

undecided AF. help

Currently biomedical engineering/biomechanics, considering minoring in mechanical engineering or materials

Computer science. Might do a math minor if I decide I’m bored.

@zettasyntax Sounds interesting actually. So do you deal with stuff like language construction in computers (NFAs, DFAs, Formal Language theory and the works)?

Industrial and Labor Relations. Started out as a Poli Sci/Econ double, but wanted to focus more on the human side of business/interaction between labor policy & the private sector.

Between these three, depending on what the colleges I am applying to offer (all related anyways): psychology (only if there is a BS program), neuroscience, and biopsychology.

@Violet1996 I don’t know much about the required courses yet, sadly. The course descriptions for them are all so vague. For instance, one upper division course is called “Human Language as Computation” and it literally says nothing other than “studying language as a complex natural system” . I don’t start at my new school until January. I do know that the program is incredibly new though. One of the required courses was just offered for the first time this Fall 2015 semester. I don’t know if that’s a good or bad thing since it may take some time for them to better develop the major. I do know that a required course for a similar major called “linguistics with computer science” at a rival school across town had a course requirement of “formal language and automata theory”, so I’m at least assuming they’d be similar programs.

@zettasyntax I’m not super into languages in computer but I have a vague understanding of language theory and automata. Hope you enjoy it!
