I would say that the great equalizer for academics will be your class rank which is usually calculated after your junior year (sometimes earlier). GPA’s from state to state or even between school districts in a given state are usually calculated in numerous ways - so even trying to convert a weighted gpa to an un-weighted gpa is not a clear cut process that establishes any type of parity between candidates. However, class rank reveals how you rank among your peers in a similar academic environment where everyone was graded using the same system. Class ranking also take into account the “weight” of the more challenging honors or AP courework. With this information the admissions office can take a look at the academic strength of your school and district to determine your scholastic qualification. However, as others have stated earlier this is only one component of evaluation - you are on the right track though. Do you have any idea at this point what your class rank is currently or projected to be at the end of this year?
