Can you ignore someone if their profile is private?
Yes, I believe you can. You just need to know their user name.
Click on your avatar, the icon of the person, preferences, users, and then you can add to your ignore list.
No, I prefer to trap and relocate squirrels if they become a nuisance. The alternative would be the air rifle if I was to get in trouble for removing them.
For situations like this one, what I have learned (though not today) is that it is better to ask for forgiveness than permission.
Yesterday I learned (I suspected but did not know) that someone you have on ignore can still see your posts and reply to them - it doesn’t work like a block on social media. (I also confirmed why I had that person on ignore lol)
Yes, when you put someone on “ignore” you don’t see their posts and they can’t message you via PM, but unless they also have you on “ignore”, they will see your posts.
If there are issues, please use the flag feature or message the mods.
thanks - nothing mod-worthy, just annoying lol
I learned that Wellington is the southernmost capital city in the world. I kind of figured it was, but confirmed it.
Today I learned, appliance edition. On my newish refrigerator, the water dispenser/icemaker will work without a filter in place. The previous fridge (15+y/o) came with a bypass plug, and since our city water is fine to drink, I used that rather than spending $$$ on filters every few months. The new one didn’t come with a bypass plug.
So when it came time to replace the original filter on the new one, I spent way too much time searching and chatting trying to find bypass plug for it. Bottom line, after way too long chatting, the agent said that part is “not required.” When I pressed her, she confirmed the water would work without a filter. I had been afraid to try that up to now (who knows where that water would go if the filter’s removed), but lo and behold, it works fine and the water pressure on the dispenser is much better!
Today I learned that the idiom “Call a spade a spade” is not about a playing card (husbands thought) or a garden tool (my thought) or it could be about either. No one really knows - the original phrase came from a Greek play referencing a “fig and and a trough”. So, I learned I really don’t know any more than before I started down the investigative path. We know what the context is but not what the spade is….at least I don’t.
I am learning how to find everything I normally use that got changed in IOS 26 and how to make it look/work like I prefer. No wonder I waited so long to upgrade!
I learned seizure rescue meds can now be given through a nose spray. So much better than the other route we usually had to take.
(Received this info in a student seizure plan. Hopefully we will never need to implement it)
I took a CPR / First Aid class throught American Heart Association. It was only 3 hours long and a great refresher.
There’s a simple recipe for the stuff you can use to prolong cut flowers. Of course cut stems at an angle and then add 1 Tbs sugar, 1 tsp vinegar and 2 drops bleach into liter of water. That’s handy for me to know because I hate flowers to wilt before their time.
I can speak much faster than I can type. I just learned that if I’m typing into a text box (like this one) on a Windows 11 PC and it doesn’t have a microphone icon I can press the Windows Key + h to launch the voice typing tool. I also learned that I need to proofread the result carefully for typos ![]()
My brother likes to dictate his texts. I’ve learned to tell when he does so by the oft confusing result.
I learned that a majority of people actually outgrow their penicillin allergy. So, I am being retested by an allergist to see if I am still allergic.
I didn’t know that! When did you develop your allergy? I took penicillin for years as a kid for recurrent strep but I started developing the allergy after needing IV amoxicillin when I was 29. At the time the docs weren’t sure what was going on and the reactions got substantially worse with subsequent exposure. Last time I landed in the ICU after going into anaphylactic shock. But, it’s been nearly 20 years now.
I developed it as an adult (probably in my 30s or 40s.) The doctor today said it doesn’t matter if you developed as an adult or child, they are discovering that people 10-15 years later don’t have the allergy anymore. You should ask your doctor. Getting the test does no harm. My doctor was very strong about preferring to use penicillin over other antibiotics whenever possible, as it is the mildest and safest to prescribe for most chest infections.
Thank you for the info! I’ll ask my doc at my next appointment.
