What do you buy at Costco?

:( I might have to go to Costco tomorrow because I accidentally ate all of the leftover “atoms” (blueberries that DH and DD were using to build molecular models using toothpicks as chemical bonds).

OOOhh… bad BB. Atomic bomb will go off in your abdomen

JK-- thats funny about the blueberry “atoms”

Our Costco was handing out a free Costco cookbook yesterday when I was there - anyone else get one??? Thumbing through (and looking at least at the dessert pages) it looks pretty good! It’s a good sized cookbook and features, of course, Costco products.

Between us, we got several of the cookbooks yesterday–seems they ran out as they weren’t giving out any today (had to go back & pick up forgotten items). We’ve gotten these cookbooks every year for many years & it’s the main incentive for my SIL to go to Costco for Black Friday.

Am pleased with the Magellan GPS for under $100!

“Our Costco was handing out a free Costco cookbook yesterday when I was there - anyone else get one???”

I got one last year.

Also got one of the Costco cookbooks last year. Now if I only cooked…

Got my DS a topcoat (wool/cashmere) for $94, as I mentioned earlier in this thread. It fits him well. And the weather just turned colder. Convenient. Of course tonight he was wering one of the sweatshirts I got from Finish Line (they were 2 for $40-- now they are 2 for 30!!)

Phew… Restocked the atom supply and picked up a few other things as well. Our Costco had cashmere pashminas (identical to the ones sold at Nordie’s for $90) for $50. I could not resist and treated myself to a nice, peach-colored one. Also got a cookbook as I exited the store - I think it is my third Costco cookbook.

Hey, our Costco doesn’t have those pashimas; actually I tend to do better with washable garb anyway & have not felt comfortable washing pashimas. Swimsuits anyone? They’re under $13!

Our DS12 got one of those Costco cookbooks! I wish I’d taken the time to look at it before it went back to school. He got his own Costco card per his request on Fri. His dorm is full of active cooks and he thinks that he’ll be able to get rides to Costco since many of the kids don’t have a card. Executive member deal … 2 household members for $40. DD10 will get hers when she comes home for Christmas, even tho’ there is no Costco near her college… they do on-line!

The title of the cookbook was Cooking With Costco foods… what sorts of recipes does it have for instance??

We are pendulum Costco food shoppers. Some months we buy tons of food; then other months we don’t set foot in the place.

I like the green-mixed salads at Costco (about $1 cheaper than in grocery stores). But the problem is they are overfrozen. A lot of time the leaves at the bottom of the box are rotten. I wonder why Costco cannot have a regular frig for vegetables.

Do you think Costco gas is cheaper? I always wonder about this.

I filled up my SUV at Costco today. Costco was $2.66 while the cheapest in my neighborhood was $2.73; I also saw $2.79 at a station along the way. There is another Costco I go to that is usually a few cents cheaper than my regular Costco. If I have under half a tank I will fill up at Costco.

So yes, Costco gas is always cheaper in my city.

What do you buy at Costco? It’s funny. Hungry cousin dropped in unexpectedly last night: within 5 minutes we were able to provide to him white wine (Eco Domani Pinot Grigio), Manchego cheese, Cesar salad, rotisserie chicken croissant sandwich with strawberry preserve on the side, coffee with half and half, and cinnamon butter pound coffee cake. All from Costco, including the wine glasses and the Vanity Fair fancy dinner napkins. At our house, I guess, you don’t have to ask what’s from Costco.

esobay is this one of the cookbooks you mentioned ?

SJChessMom, yes I think that was the title, or very similar. His cover was white. THANKS for the link.

Very interesting to see. Too bad with an empty nest I don’t feel like cooking… well, never did FEEL like cooking, but I fed people. H and I can feed ourselves now!

Gas alone is worth the membership IMO. Last week I paid $2.69 - about 17cents less per gallon than most anyplace in town.

^We do not risk to fill gas there. We might be wrong. I can fill only the most expansive grade in my car anyway. So, we never fill there. But we shop at Costco not for savings, we actually buying expansive items that we cannot buy anywhere else. Quality is awesome!!

Sisley and shiseido skin care -

Contact has very good price for Sisley and Shiseido skin care items. I’m going to buy on-line but if after few days’ try and I don’t like it (my skin is kind os sensitive in the winter time), will they accept return? The Costco near my home does not carry these items.

OUR neighborhood Costco is EXCELLENT about returns on ANY item from ANY Costco. If we don’t have the item number, they will do their best to try to find the price while you shop or wait, even if it was a gift. We have brought them SF Costco items & they cheerfully refunded us the purchase price back to our AmEx CC in HI (or gave us a Costco Cash card).

The gas is generally MUCH cheaper at Costco than at other places in HI–it can be as few as $.05/gallon to more than $.20/gallon (I think it was $3.39/gal most recently for the regular?) We’ve never had any problems with any of cars using Costco gas in our Toyota, BMW, Volvos, Lexus, Honda and Mercedes. Have not heard of others having problems with their gas in other makes of cars either, the regular or premium gas.

If we have the membership # that the item was purchased on, they will look up in the computer & print out proof of purchase which will work for any warranty needed by either manufacturer or AmEx. This has been very handy when things don’t work as expected and we have lost our paper receipts (or they’re too faint to read).

Recently tried a tasty puff pastry, pepperoni and cheese “pinwheel” appetizer.
