What do you buy at Costco?

I bought two twin size inflatable mattresses that come with legs from Costco online. I think they were $99 each. If we don’t use one for the holidays, we can return it to the warehouse.

Have we ever mentioned wine from Costco? I buy my everyday favorite, Apothic Red, for $7.39. It’s closer to ten dollars everywhere else. They have several other wines that I buy regularly at very good prices as well.

They have recently had a Kirkland’s brie. I’ve become a huge fan. All of the cheeses are great buys as well.

I just got home and they had pumpkin pies stacked up for forklifts to move, as well as sweet potato and pecan. Clearly these are big sellers, and for the prices, I can see why.

Ah yes, I bought pumpkin pie there for two meetings. I cut it up and put it into cupcake holders so it could be easily eaten (it’s too intimidating otherwise). We gave the leftovers to healthcare workers at meeting site for their dessert. $5.99 for the enormous pie is SUCH a deal!

Cheribundi tart cherry and apple juice mix! 3-pack of 32 oz bottles was $10 or so. Mixed with sparkling water, it makes festive and not so sweet beverages.

I just tried Melona dessert bars- in the frozen section near ice cream. They are like a popcicle but mango and melon flavored. Very good.

Yes, we are fond of the one that tastes like honeydew.

I love the big Walkers Shortbread cookies that are sold in the big tins at this time of the year. Inside the tin are rows of shortcake cookies packed in handy sleeves. There are a few different shapes and I’ve taken the round ones and dipped them in chocolate and chopped nuts. I occasionally make shortbread and these are not much different than mine.

I also bought a pumpkin pie for Thanksgiving this year, also an apple and pecan. I usually bake all my pies but with my daughter getting married two days after T-day, I decided to take that shortcut. I thought the apple and pumpkin were very good, but would not buy the pecan again. I thought there was too much goop and not enough pecans. I wish they would make them like slab pies - in a rectangle shape.

Their holiday gift towers are nice too. We’ve gotten them at work and I’ve given them away. Nice presentation and quality baked goods and sweets: http://www.costco.com/all-gift-baskets-towers.html

This may be old news to many of you, but did you know that if there is an * on the top corner of a Costco price sign, that the article will not be re-stocked (could be seasonal and coming back or just didn’t sell well) and the price is usually a discounted one? I was at my Costco this weekend and happened to see a big box of chocolate coated cookies that were something like $4.99. They were left-overs from Christmas but the expiration date wasn’t until the end of June. After seeing that I started looking for the asterisk and then asked an employee if my assumption was correct. He confirmed it.

@walkinghome —my Costco marks down clearance items to end in .97. Some great deals on those items!

I ordered furniture for the first time from Costco online - two club chairs for a sitting area in our living room. I ordered last Thursday and they arrived at my door yesterday - Tuesday - free shipping and when I ordered, furniture was an extra 20% off! It was wrapped nicely. No complaints.

@CT1417, Funny you mention that because before I posted, I did a snopes check about the asterick to make sure I was right and found a link that mentioned the .97 prices too. http://www.snopes.com/politics/business/bigstoreprices.asp

The other day at Costco, they had close-dated kale salad marked down to $4. I picked that and rotisserie chicken up which provides us with several meals at an amazing total price!

After a time, marked down items that don’t sell, go to our local third party “Costco Outlet”, either Remart or Outlet by ELS here in SoCal. On Monday I saw any Gloria Vanderbilt clothing item for $2.99, and a case of 24 Maruchan ramen for $1.99 (from local Albertsons).

On another note, my local Costcos have switched over and no longer carry “regular” eggs, only cage free eggs like several restaurants have done. From less than $1 a dozen to over $3 a dozen.

At my local Costco, you can’t buy a dozen eggs. Two dozen minimum. I don’t buy my eggs at Costco.

Yes I agree, Costco doesn’t offer eggs by single dozens. it was just easier to compare pricing by the dozen because my local Costcos had 2 cartons of 18 together or the 5 dozen package, while Sam’s offered 1 package of 18. Most of the time it was cheaper to purchase at Sam’s and the grocery store was always highest in price.

Costco’s eggs are not always the cheapest (though sometimes they are) but I swear they taste so fresh!

Today I decided to try something new - pho bowls. Seems to be along the lines of ramen but a few steps up - we will see. Comes several to a pack. Each bowl feels durable (not styrofoam) and each has a seasoning packet and then a dried veggie packet. I wanted to be able to add some of my own vegetables. I bought a bag of the kale mixed veggie salad - has kale, brussel sprouts, cabbage, etc. in it. I thought why not drop a handful of this veggie mix in the pho bowl the last couple of minutes - it’s pretty fine so shouldn’t take long. Haven’t tried it yet - if it works might be a good “in a pinch” work lunch!

Our Costco sells eggs as either 18 or 5 dozen. We buy 18 at a time extra large Costco eggs. They’re generally considerably cheaper than other markets here.

Just returned and repurchased brita water pitcher. Ours cracked!

Also bought a nice lightweight white with grey stripes cardigan–perfect for A/C!

Seriously had a good laugh today as I looked at an Eileen Fisher T shirt. A simple V neck for $108.
I have recently purchased 10 Tommy H T’s that are, I swear, the exact same material and shape–but different colors–for $9.99. I just dropped my jaw.

These T’s are fabulous and wash well and are cotton. I have 6 black, 2 jade and 2 deep purple.
This is simply crazy!

The cardigan I just got at Costco was $12.99. I prefer not to pay a lot for sweaters as they get list, stained, or I lose interest in them over time. I also dislike paying a lot for tshirts, especially as I still do stain shirts. Generally $10 or even up to $20 will generally buy me a nice enough Tshirt.

my S/O loves Costco, buys meats, fruits, paper goods, prescriptions, occasionally clothes and gas (for him not me). I buy my car tires there.
