What do you hate....that almost everyone else loves

@maya54 I suppose that solves the problem, but that brings to light the other thing I dislike about promposals and also really public, showy marriage proposals, which is that “look at me”, take a selfie, if-you-don’t-post-it-on-social-media-it-doesn’t-count culture. So the asker finds out if the askee wants to go with him/her or not in advance, so the whole shebang is kind of a show? Ugh. My husband proposed to me at a New Year’s Eve party 23 years ago, but he took me into a private room to do it. I really wouldn’t have liked it if he had done it in front of people. JMHO.

@intparent Exactly! LOL

Now I REALLY dislike promposals.

My D has had them. They even did this for homecoming in our neck of the woods.

Blech.

I wasn’t a fan of Thanksgiving either, until our family dynamics changed and I started cooking what I wanted at home for our immediate family. Now it love it. - no coordinating with my brother, my mom in assisted living or my brother-in-law. It’s our most drama-free holiday.

I have the opposite problem. I love traditional Thanksgiving food, but every year we go to relatives who prepare “gourmet” versions of everything, like a mushroom sauce instead of actual gravy, no rolls, weird stuffing, etc. Everybody else claims to love it, but I’m always miserable, and want to get a turkey dinner at a diner afterwards.

Oh my…Thanksgiving is my favorite holiday ! to be fair , we always have it at home since my extended family is 450 miles away. There is no drama and the food is traditional and very good. There is always extra people and my door is open for stragglers who don’t have somewhere to go. We are casual and well orchestrated to get the food on the table warm .

Thanksgiving is my favorite holiday. It’s all about family and food. I completely agree with @Hunt – I like the plain, simple, traditional foods, nothing fancy.

Along the lines of promposals - staged wedding performances or proposal videos designed to go viral

I love traditional Thanksgiving food - turkey, gravy, pumpkin pie etc.

Yoga. Especially with stupid music and stupid narration. One of my best friends is a yoga teacher and she doesn’t know.

Cheap beer. I love many craft beers, but if it tastes like gross water, I’d rather just have the water.

Bell peppers.

Cutesy wedding hashtags.

Blacked out car wheels/rims… it’s big here in California. I don’t get it.

Oh yes. I hate yoga. The teachers never shame the people with tight hamstrings. My gymnastics coaches told me anyone should be able to do that stretch within two weeks.

If you have a congenital condition that prohibits you from touching your chin to your chest they will be calling you out three to four times every session.

Well, your gymnastics coaches are not correct- at least not for anyone who does much running.

For a man who’s been married for several years, being able to put chin to chest and roll the eyes downward is far more important than being able to do the splits.

Argh! Black interiors for cars–why? In HI, it’d just too hot to tolerate black interiors. In addition, many of the cars also have dark exteriors too! I give up!!! It doesn’t look like we are going to get a new car. Since we keep cars until they die, we HAVE to LOVE them when we buy them.

The dealer can keep the dark/dark cars. :frowning:

When people use the first-person plural pronoun to talk about teams they root for. “We” won today. “That was a great trade for us.” “Our starting power forward is coming off the disabled list next week.” I mean, I won’t badger anyone about it (I keep it to myself entirely…this post being the exception), but it just bugs me.

Speaking of that ^^^, when parents say things like, “We auditioned…” or “We played…” or “We applied…” No, “we” didn’t. Your child did. Yes, I’m sure you’re a fantastic, invaluable support system; it still doesn’t make it “we” to me.

Another disliker of promposals here, whether or not there’s a pre-ask… I think they may make marriage proposals seem less special, they put a lot of pressure on the asker and the recipient, and they’re just another thing that is over-the-top in our society.

Beer of any kind, many/most types of wine…

@myloves , I feel the same way about promposals…too much pressure for all involved. I have neighbors who live across the street that have 5 children. The were born in rapid fire succession. The local primary school has Daddy / daughter dances every year and the dad dresses in a tux, the girls have very formal dresses and they hire a stretch limo. The girls are in the so little for all that IMO.
How the heck will they handle actual proms a decade or so from now ?

I dislike the nostalgia for the “wonderful” days of growing up as a baby boomer. Sure we ran around all day with our friends, but it in my case it was because there was nothing else to do. It was fun sometimes, but the kids could also be mean. Our small town offered few recreational activities. and those were only for boys, no opportunities for girls. The schools we attended were “meh” , not like the really good public schools my kids attended. With no internet, it was hard to get information on things such as colleges, scholarships, etc.

Bagels.

Love Actually! The movie, not the emotion lol. I have tried umpteen times to watch that, I never get past the guy singing badly in the studio, what is wrong with me? Everyone says that’s such a great holiday movie. Don’t get it. 8-|

Ha, I mentioned that movie earlier. I watched it for the first time last year and I really want those 2 hours back.
