I used to buy pickle shots for my son to keep in his soccer bag.
I made pickled eggs recently for the first time- I used beets so they are pink- my kids think they are the weirdest thing but I have gotten kind of addicted to them.
My H makes these sometimes; he grew up eating them. I like them, but the color bothers me. Are these a midwestern thing? My H is from OH–near Youngstown–and he ate them as a kid.
Pickled tomatoes are a favorite in my house, followed by pickled mushrooms.
My mom made them and I grew up in Southeastern Michigan - but she was also Moroccan so not sure if she got the idea there or here!
When my older brother was a kid in Queens, my mom always knew if she lost him at the store where he’d be. At the pickle barrel!
My mother often served three bean salad (from a jar) at company meals. I sometimes do same. It’s just nice to have an extra dish that does not require cooking.
For Thanksgiving and Christmas, she served red cabbage (from a jar). It’s a tradition from her German grandmother, so I do same. Adds nice color.
That’s a good reminder! I often buy the three bean salad in a jar from Costco - it’s delicious!
I pickle radishes and red onions. My husband likes the taste of the radishes but hates the smell. We go to a Mediterranean place that serves pickled vegetables with their meals. They are delicious I think they might use turmeric in the brine.
I like dill pickles, especially when they are crunchy. Japanese pickled vegetables and thinly sliced ginger are very nice as well. I like most vegetables & some fruits pickled, including green tomatoes, okra, peaches, plums, cabbage. I like mild kim chee (fermented and pickled vegetables Korean style). Heck, we even like pickled pigs feet in our household (especially D loves it). I try not to over-indulge in pickled things because they tend to be high in sodium and we are supposed to not over-indulge in sodium for general health, plus too much pickling causes more reflux.
I don’t make my own pickles, but I just wanted to give a “shout out” to capers— One of the best pickles in existence!
Forgot about capers. Definitely in.
YES to pickled okra!
