What do you Repurpose?

I am starting to save toilet paper rolls for seedlings. We made a coffee can herb garden, which is pretty cool looking and functional, too.

We repurpose coffee grounds and egg shells, veggie scraps for compost.

Clear medicine containers for change to keep in car.

We have also cut up old, discarded books into book “safes” for gifts. Lots of work, but nifty.

I reuse paper bags forever. I always double them and use them till they are no more. Then, use them for painting or messy jobs in garden.

I recently created drawer dividers for a big junk drawer with a scrap of wood from another project.

I got some Ikea curtains that were ridiculously long and made beautiful matching tea towels.

Also hate wasting things. Part of why I have clutter tendencies.

I recently found that Dr. Bronners almond soap makes a lovely shaving lotion. I may never buy another shaving cream can in my life! It takes a few drops to get a nice lather and a bottle goes a long way.

I never thought of making a book safe. Tedious to cut all the pages the same way?

Yes. I am sure you could do it with the proper power tools, though. We have used xacto knifes. Maybe a jigsaw?

I have been using smallish mason jars from canning gifts into my breakfast to go cups. Put yogurt, cut up fruit, rolled oats and chia seeds in it. Take it to work if running late, easy to wash and reuse. You can even put it together the night before.

Another thing I recently figured out - not a huge fan of the top sheet on my bed. The fitted sheet wasn’t designed for the thicker pillowtop mattress we have. Tried putting just the top sheet on top of mattress pad and it is working pretty well and staying tucked in. Saved me buying a new set of sheets!

Also old linens - blankets and towels, especially, always are brought to local animal shelter. They desperately need an abundant supply of them!

^^^
What a great idea.

Thank you, SamuraiLanshark! I was staring at a pile of old towels and thought that there could be a use for them besides serving as garage grease rags. Homeward Pets can use those, for sure!

We also repurpose clear medicine containers to keep coins in our cars. Quarters fit in perfectly.

We repurpose plastic containers for leftovers, to give kids cooked food to take home with them, etc, but DH goes overboard keeping those containers, so one of my goals is to weed through them so we’re only keeping a reasonable number. DH will probably have a panic attack once he sees how many I’ve gotten rid of.

The one thing I did last year was get rid of all the mismatched plastic containers we had jamming up the cupboards. Ikea had these non-BPA plastic freezer/microwave storage containers and I got a set. They are great.

In the long run, they are inexpensive but durable. I did match up as many of the old ones as I could and gave them away. The ones with no matching lids ended up either used for painting trim work or in recycling.

AH! I thought of another one! I use old magazines to put in my boots for boot trees (to hold them upright). Of course, even with a ton of boots you only use a couple/three dozen total magazines.
