I also travel with socks and wear them on plane. I would fold them inside out and wash them when I reach my destination (or throw them out if they are comp socks). I like to travel with cashmere throw, but recently I’ve liked to wear to wear a light puff jacket on plane. I was freezing on a flight from CA to NY when sitting by a door (my scarf wasn’t warm enough). I usually wear all black on a plane (leggings and sweater/shirt). I wear ballet flats with a bit of heels, easy slip on and off. I rarely wear sandals now, except at a beach.
@JustaMom - Thats a great deal and a great outfit! Marshalls, TJMaxx, Homegoods and Sierra are all owned by the same company. When did you find that deal?
Sometimes I pack my clunkiest shoes/sneakers outbound … then wear them on the flight home (and pack the smaller shoes) to have more space for the inevitably expanded clothing/laundry + souvenirs.
Since I do carryon over and it’s full, I bought this bag, super light weight. I ended up checking my carryon going home (free on international, and I’m not worried at that point if it gets lost like I would traveling to my destination), and carry my “don’t tell Rick” bag as my carryon. I’m getting one for the kids, too. See the little pouch in front? It folds up into that. It’s shipped nice and compact, no need to open until you come home.
When waiting to board an international flight last summer, I was amused at a few people around me pulling out their compression knee highs to don for the flight. I wanted to do the same, but sneaked off to the bathroom for mine.
I wear stretchy jeans, a long sleeve T shirt, and long cardigan of some sort, with a seasonal scarf for international flights. As my feet swell, I like shoes that tie. Sometimes when flying in summer I have worn the Keen sandals that are about the only sandals I can tolerate for a full day of walking. The toe is covered, but I wear footie socks under them. Coverage is sufficient for puddles and bathrooms. https://www.keenfootwear.com/p/W-ROSE-SANDAL.html?&utm_source=google&utm_medium=cpc&utm_campaign=190711_dsa_sz_out_br_search_lowfun&gclid=Cj0KCQiAs67yBRC7ARIsAF49CdVhmasbZY_eCjWKj2CXcY2PcG8Ps_D4zjrQ8BP8-JjPXpjr9KSJt6MaAkS-EALw_wcB Perhaps on the inelegant side, but for my lifestyle that is about as good as it gets.
@conmama your post reminded me I have one of those bags somewhere. They are great for any additional items one might buy on a trip. Another thing I’ve done in the past is carry on without my suitcase extended, after a shopping spree check the bag on the trip home fully extended. That is what I did on my last NYC trip.
My feet swell when I travel to a warm climate and I’m doing a lot of walking. In addition to the knee high compression socks I wear on the plane I also have several pairs of compression no shoes socks. I wear them with walking sneakers and it seems to help keep the swelling down.
The cashmere outfit looks divine.
Have not read all of the posts. I take a pair of slippers and change when seated. After I travel I throw them in the washing machine. Years ago I wore sandals on a long flight and the bathrooms flooded and it was disgusting. At least the slippers gave more protection. I wear loose fitting nylon pants, a shell, a shirt, a sweater and have a little blanket and pillow with me. Ask you doc for a diuretic for the flight.
Downside to that is having to pee more on the flight. :grimace:
@jym626 - early November at Marshall’s in the sleepwear department -
Popping in to thank those of you who mentioned cashmere wraps! I’m not going anywhere, but I needed an easy warm layer to handle my erratic internal thermostat. I was so sick of sweater-off-sweater-on. Nordstrom Rack had a cozy gray one on a nice markdown https://www.nordstromrack.com/shop/product/3050289?color=GREY%20CHARCOAL%20DONEGAL And here I sit, adjusting as needed. Definitely coming along on my next trip, too.
That is a GREAT buy! Thanks @HouseChatte!
I agree cashmere wraps are useful. I bought this https://www.bloomingdales.com/shop/product/c-by-bloomingdales-dip-dye-cashmere-travel-wrap-100-exclusive?ID=2828923&CategoryID=2910#fn=ppp%3Dundefined%26sp%3DNULL%26rId%3DNULL%26spc%3D7%26cm_kws%3Dc%20by%20bloomingdale’s%20cashmere%20wrap%26cm_kws_ac%3Dcashmere%20wrap%26spp%3D7%26pn%3D1%7C1%7C7%7C7%26rsid%3Dundefined%26smp%3DexactMultiMatch
It’s usually 50% off around Christmas and I like that it has no fringes. It is ever so slightly thicker than the ones at Nordstroms.
