This one is a classic off the shoulder dress with a tule skirt and comes in black and white. It has loose belt loops that you could put any color or ribbon or scarf on to give it some color. I guess I’m biased because I just bought one! Thought I’d chime in… Resonable price too!

i like kwtortoise’s for a young look that isn’t too bare (which I think the OP says her D doesn’t like?)

i liked the macy’s too - maybe it’s a little corporate, but it could be worn quite young as well, i think

i’m a no vote on the thistle; just seems all wrong and kind of hippie-era to me

Washdad, That is my son’s dress code except that he sometimes puts on the tie if required to a semi formal. He dresses for a semi formal in a matter of minutes, and his slacks and button down long sleeve shirts are mostly machine washable and wrinkle resistant. He has not warn his suit at college yet b/c it needs to go to the dry cleaners.

You are all amazing. In a few month’s I will have to put you all to work finding suitable bat mitzvah outfits for my 13 yr old.
Someone earlier mentioned Forever 21. If you have one nearby it is worth a look. The stuff is cheap. Not well made but for the price it can’t be beat.

My daughter has probably two dozen dresses from 21. They are great summer dresses. But for a dressy occasion, she always goes for BCBG from Bloomingdales. She is very thin and their XS fits her perfectly.
