Would it be alright if she wore a Yale shirt in private, by the way?

It doesn’t mean that much at all. I wear Harvard sweatshirts that my dad got for me at his reunions, and even wear his old ones sometimes haha. People don’t really care/take notice, I mean it is still a college that anyone can like or choose to support, not some super human institution(though it may seem that way). But yeah, it does make more sense for someone to wear that stuff if they are of applying age, go there, are an alumnus, or have relatives that go there or have gone there.

@drumwriter22 I didn’t say that people who go to ivy league schools are tools, I said that I generally judge people who wear ivy league apparel as tools. In my experience the people that wear yale/harvard hoodies aren’t taking the hardest classes, or making changes in the world/community, but merely doing what’ll look good on an application and grubbing for grades from teachers who can’t stand them. (Again, this is IN MY EXPERIENCE).

And then there are those who go above and beyond anything expected of them, and would do perfectly well at an ivy league school, but either don’t apply, or get accepted and choose not to brag by wearing clothing from their future school. (I have a friend who just got accepted to Princeton; other than a facebook status, he kept quiet about it, which I respect him for).

I think wearing something with a big name school on it is comparable to wearing clothing just because it’s a popular brand; it shows that you’re NOT a free thinker and I would consider anyone a tool for being such. (I actually think that might be the definition of “tool.”)

Now, this is just my opinion, I suppose, and generally I swear I’m not this judgemental, but this is something that annoys me, because I don’t really like the Ivy Leagues or what they stand for. People have suggested I apply there, but I really don’t think the atmosphere would suit me and I’ve done enough research to say so. What bugs me is when people DON’T do the research and just consider an ivy league school to be one of the best, or a perfect fit, or a dream school for no other reason but subliminal messages they’ve been exposed to since they were in grade school.

I wear a Brown sweatshirt “in public” sometimes - yes, I’m applying to Brown, and yes, my mom went there, but mostly I have it because I was walking around near campus one day when it was really cold and I needed a sweatshirt.

It doesn’t mean anything.
