What does your chapter of the National Honor Society require in terms of an application?

Ours was an 85 average and at least half of the school got in.

I think it’s a 3.75 at my kids’ school. They do have an application to fill out. Required to get a certain number of service hours to get the cord at graduation. D says for the opportunities NHS has to get hours the slots fill up really fast because there are so many kids. So most of her hours so far have been outside of school.

3.75 uw at my kids former high school and invitation by the teachers for sophomore year and up so kids that don’t make it after freshman year have 3 times to “make it” and then the kids fill out an application/essay if they accept the invitation. Community service required and if the GPA falls below you are no longer a member. 2 of mine declined the invite and 1 was a member all 3 years. Meetings once a month so not too onerous an obligation and an induction ceremony at night once a year for the “new” inductees. Some kids aren’t invited until junior or senior year so it’s a revolving door. The kids that are in for all 3 years wear a colored cord at graduation. I thought it was a nice activity, but not “essential.”
