What DON'T You Miss from When Your Kids Were Little?

I don’t miss diapers…at all!!!

I don’t miss baby teeth that were hanging by a thread or flapping for days before finally falling out. Or the ones that could actually be twisted around in the socket.

I don’t miss sleepovers where there was always one kid that got homesick and had to go home at 12:30 am.

I miss/don’t miss the backstage drama at dance productions, recitals, or competitions. I don’t miss mean or psycho dance teachers (of which there are many).

^^ I don’t miss packing for dance events. When D was little, I was always worried that I was forgetting something vital even though I’d checked 3 times. When she was older and did her own packing, it never failed that I’d hear a panicky yell from her bedroom: “Mommmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm!!! I can’t find my tan tights/left tap shoe/red hair flower!!!”

Come to think of it, that has continued into college. Last year, I got a text from her: “Would you send my tan leo?” Knowing that the show was about 5 days away, I rummaged in her room till I located it, laundered it, and made a special trip to the Post Office. Later that day I texted her, saying that it was on the way. She texted back: “Oh. lol. I found my other one in the bottom of my dance bag. I put it there after the show last semester and forgot.” Some things never change.

I don’t miss leaving the beach with my 2, 6 and 7 yr olds tired, sand coated and hungry despite near constant snacking. So much fun building sand castles and jumping the waves but oh so cranky upon leaving…and all the stuff, ugh
