What Fall Foods Are You Enjoying?

But a long window to make them. :red_apple:

Candy apples, taffy, fudge, and rice crispie treats were favorite things to make when I was growing up. Someone’s mother was always needing a few extra little helping hands when candy was being made. My mom was famous for saying, "Why don’t you ask < the three little girls next door > to come over and help me make some taffy? (Their mother was the one who liked to make candy apples.)

Wow, you had better neighbors and mother than I did. No homemade fall treats in my neighborhood. We had a delicious caramel apple a few weeks ago when we went to a birthday party at a pumpkin patch. The apple was tart and crisp and you could tell it was homemade.
My butternut squash soup was my best yet. I tried two new techniques that resulted in the best texture and most creamy soup. I roasted the squash cut in half flesh side down versus using precut cubes. Instead of the immersion blender I puréed the soup in my Vitamix blender. It made it creamy without any added cream. My only mistake was I thought it need a bit of spice and I went overboard on the cayenne pepper.

I’ve learned to add the cayenne to my individual bowl as opposed to the whole pot. I think I can control it better that way.

Today I put one of my gardens to bed and pulled out a BUNCH (ES) of carrots. And so much carrot greens! I made pesto out of the carrot greens and actually even used a bunch in a flower bouquet with some orange flowers from my garden - very autumn!

Apples!!! I live in an area with lots of orchards and this is the prime time for apples. There are lots of great varieties that you rarely find in grocery stores (Red Baron, Honeycrisp, etc.
