What GPA do gifted athletes need to be accepted into great schools?

Chromedome,

Great post. Our son’s background stories are very similiar.

I would add two things to your list. Specifically…

7) Do they really want you?
8) training philopshy.

Does the coaches training style coincide with your training philosophy. This is something that has definitely came up with my son (Ivy baseball) when he was being recruited. For example…we came aware of certain training methods that my son thought was irregular. One coach had his players running long distances. That was not a training regime my son thought was worthwhile…he had been trained on sprints, explosiveness and athleticism…that method worked for him. That school was crossed off the list.

rhandco,

Whether he picks D3 or an Ivy, it won’t matter once he steps into his first college practice and eventual college competition. It just doesn’t matter at all. Good luck!

@rhandco Are you positive that the kid who got accepted to Yale had a 3.0 gpa? Is’nt that a little too low for the Ivy league? Unless he was nationally/internationally known for the sport? Do you know if this applies to swimming?
