What Happens to Frequently Flyer Miles Upon Death?

As the keeper of all the frequent flyer accounts and passwords in the family (memorized, I use them so often)…I would just log in to the account and book a ticket with the mileage, no transfer required. If the mileage is small, who cares about transferring. Nobody in my family has ever booked a mileage ticket on their account except for me.

I can’t believe any airline would be so stingy that they would not give the survivors the miles. Disgusting!

OP, here. Believe the program is Capital One Venture. Fly anywhere, anytime…

OP, see the link posted above. It has information that will help.

My parents’ miles were Delta Skymiles through Amex. They WILL transfer them to the other cardholder when an account is set up in that person’s name alone. The transfer cannot be done online, although that is the normal method for booking travel.

To follow-up, friends helped my recently-widowed friend go online, create an account and use the accumulated points for purchased airline tickets. They believe it’s all taken care of–“account will be credited in 4-5 business days”. Just entered information and used the points for travel expenses. No questions asked! She was so overwhelmed; may not have been able to do it on her own. Poor thing.
