What happens to international students during vacations?

There are always students who stay on campus for fall and spring breaks – it’s a nice time to relax with friends, cook some really good meals together, bike to an orchard and go apple-picking, and generally enjoy everything that Oberlin has to offer when there aren’t academic commitments getting in the way.

There are also plenty of college-supported opportunities to leave campus during break – you can go on a service trip or go out backpacking with the Outdoor Club, for example. I’ve also known international students who visited other parts of the U.S. during breaks, or went to friends’ houses for the week.

During winter break the dorms are closed for two weeks, so everyone who is living on campus needs to leave. I don’t know how many international students go home during that time, and how many go traveling in the U.S. or stay in off-campus houses in Oberlin.

One of the Oberlin bloggers is an international student who’s written a bit about his adventures over spring break and Thanksgiving break: [Oberlin Blogs | Simbarashe Runyowa '15](http://blogs.oberlin.edu/Simba.shtml)
