What holiday gifts are you buying (or receiving)?

I LOVE my Ridge wallet. I carry it in my front pocket.

I found a gift I really want, and I am going to send the link to my kids. You’ll know what this is if you grew up in the Chicago area (which I did–we moved there when I was in 4th grade). I have great memories of going here to see the Christmas windows and have lunch in the Walnut Room. I went every year with my family (my mom, her sister, and my cousins). Macy’s just hasn’t kept up. I went back last year to visit my cousin and we went to the Walnut Room. It was sad.

so - seems like my d23 has been hit by wanting instagram feeds presents. . . . brand name items that are just SOLD out everywhere! (like a canon power shot elph 360 or UGG ultra mini classics) I CAN NOT WAIT till that urge to wear and buy what others are pushing and showing is OVER!!!

but i’m writing here cuz i had a fun/strange experience. My architect D16 wanted a membership to a climbing gym - she lives OOS. I was using online chat with the gym about specials – somehow this chat was responded to through my FB chat – and the person I was chatting with saw my cover pix - and recognized my S15 - from yet another state. They were buddies in college! and from our chat both reconnected this week! my son was so excited when his old friend called him!

but i am feeling very guilty. I tried to pull off something that was dumb. I did buy a membership for my D16; in my mind she’s still a student and deserves to have student rates after 7 YEARS (she graduated in June.). However, she’s not Really a student, and it might be awkward for her going in to claim this student membership now that one of the people there knows her brother! :person_facepalming:t4: cheated; got caught; feeling dumb. just to save $100! You’d think i’d learn these things as i age.

@GKUnion - if you don’t mind, how many credit cards can you fit into the wallet easily? H also keeps his wallet in the front pocket.

@shawk glad your D likes the calendar. Both of my daughters are loving theirs too!

I currently have 10 different cards(including my drivers license, etc.) in there, with room for more.

Hint to those with wallets (especially fat wallets) in back pocket. Consider taking it out for long drives. Decades ago my husband complained about right leg issues, symptoms of the start of sciatica. His doctor gave this hint, and the pain went away.

Here is what I carry in my front left pocket every day. I’m wearing slim fit jeans today and both fit very comfortably. You’ll notice the post-it on the wallet reminding me to buy fire blankets because of this thread.

No pocket knife? DH has wallet, notepad/pen and pocket knife at all times.

LOL! My pocket knife is in that leather sheath with the Ti pen attached.

This company makes handcrafted lovely leather wallets at very reasonable prices.

They even make some out of very soft, strong, supple kangaroo leather (which is what I got). H chose one made of more traditional leather. They have an assortment of styles and colors and will custom make what they don’t have in stock. My very picky H finally found a wallet he loves and was able to retire his many decades old, much loved wallet.

Thanks for the reminder of Big Skinny Wallets.
Apropos of nothing, a very good friend of mine is a very good friend of the owner of that company. I know people love the wallets. May have to get some.

Are there some fancy chocolate mints from there that people love?

I second this idea - my 23-year old son specifically asked for this as a Christmas gift this year. He lost one that we gave him when he first went to college and really missed having it. I did quite a bit of research, as there are a million of these, all with different tools, and settled on a Leatherman Wingman, which comes with a nice case. I also got both him and his sister a Gerber Shard, which is a very simple (and cheap) multitool that can go on a keychain and can go through airport security as it has no knifeblade.

Frango mints.

My husband has been doing most of the cooking. He wanted a petite Santoku knife so that’s what his big present will be…$150 for one knife.

I love Eagle Creek products for their durability and great warranty but they’re just so much more than the cheap knockoffs on Amazon! Sadly I cheap out but am using the EC pieces I bought years and years ago, which I’m supplementing with the cheap other brands, mix & match.
